My family is thinking about moving states after I graduate, and I had a question on how tuition rates would work. For example, if I went to a Public, and my parents moved to the same state, could I pay out-of-state costs for a year (or however long it takes to establish residency) and then once my parents are residents, get in-state tuition? Is this something that’s possible? Thanks.
It will vary from state to state, so you need to check each state’s requirements for establishing residency. Some states are easier than others, but all should go off where your parents reside if they are providing financial assistance.
^ This. You may also want to check what happens if you decide to attend a college in your current state and your parents move out of state.
Some schools we looked at also went by your freshman year status and even if family moved to that state afterwards you couldn’t change it. Each school has different rules.
