Residency

My ultimate goal is to attend the U-of-M for my last two years of undergraduate studies and for my graduate studies in pursue of a PhD.

I was accepted to the school as a freshman, but money posed a problem, so I'm attending UC Irvine instead. I'm really disappointed where I am at right now: since Michigan is my dream school.

I want to become a resident of Michigan to solve the money problems, and , of course, I'm most likely going to be living there the rest of my life. Anyhow, I am currently a California resident.
Can anyone give me advice on how to go about this?

I'm thinking of attending Michigan's state university for this upcoming summer and my sophomore year, while renting an apartment, and working half time so that I can apply to the U-of-M my Junior year as a resident.

Does this work,
or is there a better option?

Thanks for any help ahead of time.
I really, really appreciate it.

Probably not. UofM is quite strict regarding residency and the establishment of residency and the university does audit students. If you haven’t read the info from UofM… below is the link.

[Residency - Office of the Registrar](Residency | Office of the Registrar)

it doesn’t work like that.

if you are a “dependent”, then michigan will require that one of your parents pay full time taxes. they’ll also ask for records of a mortgage or rent receipts. if you just moved to michigan, they’ll ask for receipts of you/your parents moving all of your belongings from where you came.

hmmm. I guess ill have to suck it up and stay at Irvine.
Once again, thanks.
