Resident Advisors

How hard is it to become and/or be an RA at Wash U? (After freshman year of course...) Is the application process competitive? Is the job very time-consuming?

Thank you!

Hey,

It’s very competitive. Many students apply, and the application process takes awhile. You fill out a written application and send in one or two recommendations. Then you are scheduled for a group interview to see how you and other students interact and whether you can handle problems that arise when you are an RA. Next you are scheduled for an individual interview.

The job is also very time-consuming from what I hear-- people say don’t be an RA just to get the free room and board; it’s not worth it. However my friends who are RAs seem to be able to handle their schoolwork plus RA duties fine. They also really enjoy being an RA!

Hope this helped.

Thank you!

No problem musicalscientist ^_^

Also note- you can’t apply to be an RA until you’re a (rising) junior
aka you apply when you’re a sophomore for your junior year, (or senior).
