Resident Halls

I'm a senior who is attending UGA this fall. I was wondering if anyone here had some suggestions or info on resident halls.. primarily things the web-site doesn't tell you. I look forward to seeing you at UGA!

Same here and, sorry for hijacking your thread, but I was wondering if anyone knows when those of us who have applied to Franklin Residential College will here back from them

Creswell was my first choice. If someone could inform me on what Creswell is like, it would be nice. Also, I'd like to know what the best dorms are that might have quite a few spots open.

I haven't heard great things about Creswell. Something about fire alarms going off in the middle of the night was mentioned somewhere. I've also heard it called "Creshell." Now, who knows how the place really is... I mean, that's just a couple of opinions.

Boy, am I in for a big surprise! My roommate, who is also a current high school friend of mine, said Creswell was pretty good, since his girlfriend lives there right now. I hope it's nice... if not, I'm going to have to pitch a tent outside of the dean's office every night. ;)

That just goes to show how biased some dorm reviews can be. I think any dorm would be good. It's what you make of it that counts.

This thread is pretty accurate on dorms

If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask.

I agree MC.

On the side note, thanks Space! I had read that thread several months ago and had completely forgotten about it.

yeah patel, i chose creswell as well.. from what I've heard, its pretty fun. Can always change preferences though.

Maybe we'll be in the same hall, SVK. I went along with my friend with Creswell because I think they have study rooms too.

most people choose russell over creswell...those are the two large high rise freshman dorms, but russell is a little newer and nicer. they are extremely similar and have almost the same room layouts (i've stayed with a friend at creswell and visited other friends in russell), the main difference is that russell is known to be nicer. also, if you're not looking for a freshman dorm, o-house (oglethorpe) is really nice also (it has suite style bathrooms and bigger rooms). and myers is really good if you're in honors. its a little quieter and its the honors magnet dorm. oh and the thing about fire alarms-that happens in all the large dorms fairly often, its just something you have to deal with i guess

There are also study rooms in Russell (some very nice).

Like everyone said Russell is a little bit nicer, but has central AC. In creswell you have room AC units which is very nice when the weather is changing (or if you just like it your way).

I'm in russell and love it...me and my roommate bought fans that we pretty much run the whole time and its pretty nice.

If you had a choice between Myers and Russell, would you pick Myers?

My friend is being really annoying about picking a hall. She has a spot in Myers but she's convinced that she should live in Russell to be with other freshman. She claims that upperclassmen will not be as apt to making new friends--with her, of course. I'm not too sure about that one; I figure freshman tend to be more stressed with transitioning and all?

Would you pass up Myers for a high rise...?

Would you say that living in the freshmen high rises with your FRESHMEN peers helped you adjust better to the new college atmosphere and encouraged to be more involved on campus?

Or would the honors atmosphere of Myers and living in the quad help more with socialness? I imagine the parties in the quad and the quidditch more than make up for not being surrounded by freshmen peers?

Also, I bet a lot the effect of being surrounded by freshman peers has to do with them taking the same classes as you... If you AP out of some of those req's, you won't really be getting the whole effect. If you're so into getting the freshmen peer experience, is it a good idea to drop your AP credits to retake classes with new friends? Neddy, this might be a great idea for you!

Just curious... how does your friend know she is in Myers? I put it down first. Turned in ap. and $ in Jan. When/How do we find out?

I'm on the Ramsey and they put us in Myers. I'm pretty sure (could be mistaken) I am allowed to pull in my roommate to live with me in Myers. That's what they told us, anywho. So I was offering the spot to some people I know to get in the better dorm. They haven't released exact info on housing yet though

Ok.. got it... I really want in Myers. I'm in Honors and turned in my ap. early, so I am hoping I'm in. They told me that my roommate had to be in Honors so I'm looking.

Is Olgethorpe house hard to get into, I applied in March? If you are in honors but you have a roommate who isn't, can we both still get placed into Myer's hall?

Are the beds already lofted in the high rises?
