Other than the housing app, is there anything else I must do to get into the residential college? How difficult is it to get in?

ALSO, I am contemplating putting my second and third choice as east and west campus apts. Do a lot of freshman live here? If I do chose to live here, will I be living with three other freshman (assuming I chose the four bedroom) or is it 100% random assignment to where I would potentially be living with seniors?

The residential colleges are based on your declared major "or" special interest. For instance, you must be a declared business major to get into the business dorm, you must be in Honors College to get into Honors housing (East Laville). It is my understanding that only upperclassmen can get into the apartments. This is posted on their website and I asked our tour guide as well. You really should go ahead and get the room deposit in because they ran out of rooms last year. We were told that there was already a wait list for Herget Hall.

Yup, SouthernDad, has got it right. East Campus apartments (ECA) and West Campus apartments (WCA) are reserved for upperclassmen only. Though, some freshman athletes do get housing in WCA. In addition, Annie Boyd and Highland halls are also upperclassmen housing only, though they may make exceptions here, due to a space crunch.

In case you are wondering, the newly renovated housing is Graham (Business and Engineering Residential college) and Blake Hall (they have their own residential college as well, don't remember what it is). Some residential colleges, like SouthernDad said, are based on your special interests. One example is Broussard Hall, which is the IT residential college. You can be any major, and still live there. Be aware that most of the residential colleges require you to take certain courses. In example, the IT res. college, will require you to take a ISDS course (basically a business computer application course), regardless of your major.

i applied to the business residential college because i intend to major in business
and then put the apartments as my second and third choice only because i really don't want to live in the regular dorms.
i did this online and thought that they would tell me i couldn't apply for the apartments as a freshman but it let me so i just left it like that.
i bet if there was enough room they would let a freshman stay but that's probably very unlike since i heard rarely any upperclassman stay in the regular dorms.
they usually live in the apartments or off-campus.

i would really prefer to stay in the residential college though :)
