Residential colleges

hahahhahah gorbachev YES STANDARDS!!!

I kinda want Branford... I would want berkely, but I heard there's a lot of snotty people in there :-\?

maybe, maybe not. Who cares. Like Gorbachev sez.... I'LL TAKE SIDEWALK!

Alright, but you can't have my sidewalk.

me too. Anything to get out of here and into New Haven! I'm still so, um, good word, ELATED! okay, maybe HAPPY is a better one.
I have no idea about any of the colleges, I feel out of the loop. I'll figure it out I guess.

Is anyone else having issues with fin aid? I can't afford it at the moment, but I'll work it out.

I love looking at the pics of the colleges on the campus map. They're all more or less pretty, with the exception of Morse & Stiles, duh.

morse and stiles might not be the most aesthetically pleasing but they have a lot going for them.. freshmen year morse and stiles people live in lawrance and durfee and have the nicest rooms. stiles is right next to the gym and its on broadway next to the shops and restaurants.. td and silliman might not be appealing since freshmen dont live on the oc, but they have such a strong bond that all of the other colleges envy.. i think all the res cols have so much going for them, i would have been happy to be in any of them

you'll all love whatever college becomes your home. right before i got my housing assignment over the summer, i made a list of all the colleges, but i only had 11. i was missing one, and my mom declared that she was sure i'd be in the one that i forgot. and i was! yeah trumbull! moorah! anyway, my point is, trumbull is the best, though none of you have heard of it. actually, my point is that all the colleges are great.

but more on trumbull... we're being renovated this year, so next year i'll move from bingham (the most beautiful building on the oc) into the brand-new college. we have a mascot. at The Game, everyone tried to steal our bull horn hats. we pretty much are gryffindor, for you harry potter fans out there. and we're awesome.

haha! i'm with gorbachev. each college seems to have positives and negatives. I'm just excited to be a Yalie! I really wanna see the new handsome dan. he's pretty sexy...for a dog anyway. i'm so excited for Bulldog Days!

just so you all know...

you should want silliman. because we're getting a $100 million dollar renovation next year. which means, yes, as a freshman you'll live in swing space, but then you get 3 YEARS in a brand new college. honestly. it's going to be sweet. plus the whole old campus thing is kinda overrated.

and just for some comparison of costs...

silliman renovation next year: $100 million
yale could buy every silliman student a $250,000 house with that money.

the next closest renovation in costs: Davenport and Pierson...each about $60 million

and it all goes down from there....

silliman = sweet.

Stiles has nice singles, & walk-in closets!

Basically, all of the twelve colleges have their pros and cons. Granted, there are several I prefer more than others, but a lot of that is just personal choice.

That being said, Silliman is most certainly the best residential college :o)
(Currently first in IMs too, haha)

That's very true about Silliman & #1 in IM sports ranking this year ;))
(I'm parent of SM 08 son!)

I like JE, Branford, and Berkeley. But I'm sure I'll be happy wherever I'm at.

Pierson's very hot and very Georgian. <3

Oh, me too. ;)

Branford and Saybrook are falling behind more and more each year, since they were renovated first (although they are still very pretty on the outside). The biggest problem with Morse and Stiles is not that they're ugly but that they have inflexible suites and don't have common rooms; many Morse and Stiles seniors move off campus. Silliman isn't in good shape, but TD is a great college (renovated recently). At the moment, the best college is without a doubt Davenport. When the '10s arrive on campus, Trumbull and JE will be pretty good choices too.

JE isn't getting renovated until 07-08 school year, which means the '10ers won't get to actually live in their college until junior year....when a lot of them will probably end up getting annexed anyways. JE will argueably be the worst college to be in for a 2010 student.

Silliman is being renovated this coming year...'10ers who get into silliman will get 3 full years in a newly renovated college. 'tis sweet!

"JE isn't getting renovated until 07-08 school year, which means the '10ers won't get to actually live in their college until junior year....when a lot of them will probably end up getting annexed anyways. JE will argueably be the worst college to be in for a 2010 student."

wrong. if it's getting renovated their sophomore year, they don't have to live in the "sophomore slums". They go from nice freshman housing in Farnam, to swing space which is like a hotel, to a newly renovated college for the next two years...

that would be true if it wasn't for the fact that JE annexes Juniors like nobody's business.

It's similar to the Trumbull situation right now. I have friends who are sophomores currently in swing space and some will get annexed next year. Thus, the only chance they have to live in the college would be senior year.....and some of them want to be freshman counselors.

I'm a freshman in Saybrook this year and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. LW has a great location and even though I have a small bedroom our common room is spacious. The courtyard is really comfortable and the area around it really is the social center of Old Campus. We're right across the street from Saybrook so I'm friends with tons of upperclassmen. Also, I've just gone on a tour of all the suites in Saybrook (we're choosing housing for next year) and they are really nice. All walk in closets, lots of singles, and a couple of suites with multiple floors. It's also an absolutely gorgeous gothic college. Congrats to all of you, just try to remember that you will love whatever college you get into (especially since it's at Yale).
