Residential colleges

I can’t decide whether I want to apply for the Residential Colleges or not. I have heard mixed reactions about them. Does anyone have any personal experiences with the Residential Colleges that they could share? Is there a stigma associated with Res College kids?

The kids we met at Admitted students day really liked them. THere is a bit of discussion about them in another thread here, with the consensus being that people who weren’t in them some times regretted it.

The college is moving forward to increasing the % of each class in the res college system, so I think there will be no stigma

My son is in the Humanities one and I can assure you there is no stigma associated with them at all. In fact, when we talked to some Bucknell students last year (when he was a senior in high school), the ones who were not in a Residential College said they wished they had joined one.

I think it’s a great way to get close to other students very quickly as they do a lot of activities together. Among other things, my son took trips to New York city and Washington, DC with his Res College. And McDonnell Hall is amazing, if you happen to join one that is located there.

Yes, McDonnell is the nicest freshman dorm. THat is a nice bonus!
