Residential Learning Communities

Could someone give me some insight of what dorms host each residential learning communities?

I would preferably want to be in the business learning community, but not if I have to live in Maya/Olmeca and give up a suite style living. I would LOVE to be in a suite style room in Cuicacalli, so what learning communities are in that dorm?

@witmycrew - SDSU purposely switches around the RLC dorms each year (except for Honors - the largest one) so that students can’t request a specific dorm. And, Olmeca and Maya might be awful looking, but those two dorms tend to create one of the strongest and closest communities of students and staff on campus. With the new South Campus dorm opening in the fall, no one knows where any RLC will be.

My Aztec son was in an RLC Freshman year, Olmeca and his floor mates got very close as @Fish125 stated. He is rooming with 2 of his floor mates this year in an apartment and still hangs around most of them to date. Although Olmeca and Maya are old, they are clean plus it is only for 1 year. Majority of students will make the best of their situation.

@Gumbymom do most freshman choose a learning community?

From what I can remember regarding the housing application, you have 6 options you can select and my son picked RLC’s for 5 of the 6. He got into his last choice which was Emerging Leaders, but it probably was a blessing in disguise because of the great group of friends he made and has motivated him to look for leadership positions in the Fraternity he joined this year. Definitely a positive outcome. He has several friends that did not pick RLC’s but as @Fish125 stated, I think having the same living arrangement and common class(es) reinforces a good bond with fellow students and a more conducive atmosphere to make friends easier. I think they are very good options for in-coming Freshman to help in transitioning into college life and SDSU.
