Residential Programs

Any current students in a residential program that could detail their experiences?

What are the good ones?

Are they worth it?

It seems like a great way to round out studies at Penn.

Nobody has been in any of these programs?

I did a search on residential programs and this is a list of the threads discussing them. The information is not very detailed and is scattered around.

I was in the healthy living residential program my freshmen year. It was nice, but really had little to do with healthy living at all. There were a few scattered events throughout the year, but most kids only applied for the program to get into Mayer hall, some of the largest rooms on campus.

honestly, i dont know one res program that actually does anything. i was in the freshman experience in Harrison. we did jack **** all year. my floor was given $200 a month for a floor dinner or a floor outing to a movie. thats about it. i have friends in the arts floor in harrion and i have gone with them to the barnes collection and to the MOMA. basically, the programs are just a way to get the room you want. you may meet people w/ the same interests as yourself, but it will be up to you to act on those interests.

i was in a residential program as well - it's pretty much just a way to get into the place that you want to live (for me - it was the quad). don't expect to do a lot of events.

jf215, which residential program were you in? For some reason, they (okay, one person) emphasized the programs a lot at Penn Previews for a good halfhour, but I also want to use the programs as a springboard into a Quad room. I'm looking into the Study of Infectious Diseases program, but I also don't want to be stuck on a particularly competitive or antisocial floor.

programs that i know don't do anything in the quad (this year): Living Cultures, Women in Technology, Health & Fitness (in riepe), entrepreneurs. i know the mentor program DOES do things, and I think law & society does as well. i dont know about the infectious disease RP though.
