ResNet and Sports Pass?

What are they? Do we REALLY need them? I’m trying to lower my bills and I would love to know if I’m seriously going to use these “crucial” programs…??

ResNet is your internet access, which you'll want if you're staying in the dorms. I opted out of the Sports Pass, which lets you get free tickets to basketball and hockey games, because I'm not really a sports person.

where can we opt out of for the sports pass?

On the student link (<a href="http://www.bu.edu/studentlink%5B/url%5D">www.bu.edu/studentlink</a>) click "Money Matters" and then go to "student account inquiry". You can then click on "Sports Pass" link on your bill and follow the instructions there.

I have a few questions. Hopefully someone who's been at BU for a bit can answer them. What kind of monitoring do they do on the Wireless VPN and Resnet connections? Is it proactive, reactive (ie only in response to riaa etc) or what?

Is it ok to download gigs and gigs of legal material (via torrent/ftp sites)?
-What about things like tv shows on Mininova etc...Do they monitor?

How about adult-themed material?
-If living on Commonwealth in an area with both Resnet and served by VPN Wireless, Does the answer to any of the above questions make a difference whether or not you use the wireless or connected access?

Anyone????

if you go to orientation theyll tell you that they monitor everything and not to download crap. i dont know about downloading stuff legally...is that legal? but they mention pirating music as enough to get ou kicked out of the dorms so i would just suggest downloading all your stuff at home during vacas and this summer if you wanna be on the safe side.

Every school monitors downloads. If they find you're pulling down gigs of material, they will find you. Since all files are now megs large, they don't notice a few songs. Movies they would notice. Some schools throttle your speed if you use a lot of bandwidth.
