I went over my weekly bandwidth limit (lots of linux related downloads). I can still use the network in the library, but does that count towards my bandwidth useage? I'm asking because apparently I have used ~50mb today without having turned my laptop on in my dorm

A lot of times there is a delayed reading. So lets say your on your computer, you see your bandwidth usage then turn it off and you think that's that, however, the bandwidth measurement can be off to a point, so it can create some issues. When I first moved in I was going crazy downloading huge files just to marvel at the speeds and my first week I managed to go over by like 5 gigs. I was paying pretty close attention, but the speeds are so fast and the bandwidth usage is delayed enough to where you can go over pretty significantly in a small period of time if you are downloading large files from high speed servers because you won't notice for 30 minutes.

But that happened overnight. And while i was in the library, I noticed that my resnet badnwidth went down by a little bit every hour or so. I'm not getting bandwidth deducted from my resnet account even though I'm using the network in PCL, am I?

If you use any wireless internet on campus, it takes away from resnet. And as far as it going down "overnight" did you look at the bandwith usage table and see when it spiked. Chances are it was just residual bandwith.

So I'm paying for exlcusive internet access in my dorm and I get charged even when I'm not in my dorm?
Thanks for the information though. At least now I know there's no escape from resnet in PCL...

Your really paying for internet usage on campus. Everyone, whether you pay for it or not, gets 500 mb from UT every week. Now if you so chose, you can get additional plans, so I think that's how they look at it. Stupid yes, and it is one of the perks of living off campus, but still for the speed, the price is not too bad.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
