Hi everyone,
I'll be applying ED and EA to 2 schools, both with deadlines of November 1st. What is the latest acceptable day to ask my teacher for a recommendation while still giving them enough time to write it?

I'm debating between asking a teacher I had junior year (Pre-Calc H), vs. a teacher I had freshman year but will also have senior year (Geometry H and Calc BC).

So do I have time to reconnect with my senior teacher and ask for a rec, say, Oct 1st? Or is that way too late??

Thanks everyone!!

You should approach your teachers as soon as school resumes. Remember there are many other students that will ask for recommendations. The later you ask, the higher chance they will say no as they may not be able to handle all the students. You should find the one that knows you more. That would make the recommendation more valuable.

October 1 is most certainly too late for ED and EA recommendations. Definitely ask during the first couple weeks of the school year.

My son’s school requires that the request be made by the end of junior year . . . so, as some would see it, you’re already late!

Make a decision and, if you can, email the teacher NOW.

I’ll apply RD to all my schools and maybe SCEA but I haven’t asked for yet. but I’ll ask my teachers next week when school opens. I asked my teacher 3 months ago and they said they will write it and i’m the only one applying who needs teachers’ recommendation. So, i guess I’m not late. but ask your teacher. they need time to write good LORs.

My D’s schools actually told the students to ask the teacher when school resume as they will be very busy at the end of school year and don’t want to be bothered. Anyway, my D did talk to 3 teachers a month before term end and they all promised to write good recommendations for her.

Why in the world would she need THREE recommendations???

^ One is also the adviser of the NHS. Many schools allow supplemental recommendation letters. In addition, she may ask different teachers for separated applications that are not on the CommonApp.
