So friends I'm currently living in Bangladesh and have to finish my 12th grade in Queens,New York ....I have given my SAT and got 2230/2400,but need to attend and complete high school(to get transcript) in order to gain admission in a reputable College, hence this reason to join one.

NOTE-I'm a US citizen btw .....I've also have completed my GCSE's from here ....
but now the catch is one my relative living in queens is saying that if I apply to join a high school I'll be admitted ,according to the area code, in a very less reputable one like the William C Bryant High school(regardless of my current status) which is not much of a good school as far as many others are saying... also its a C-D graded school...but judging from my result I believe I deserve a much better choice...

So is there any way for international students(actually I'm a citizen but still I fall under) to gain admission in good-mediocre reputable schools where I can study in peace unlike the Bryant school where the code is not so preferable for many like me... Please help me out guys...I'm set to leave the country asap, but this is really holding me back ....

Pls Enlighten me with some answers! :) Regards!

If you will be living with that relative, you will be assigned to the public school for students in her neighborhood. Whether or not you have other options, is something that she (or you) would need to take up with the local school authorities. Look at their website, and find out what your options are.

It is not necessary to graduate from high school in the US in order to enroll in college here. Read the websites of the colleges and universities that interest you, and find out if your GCSE results are sufficient. For more ideas, contact the office of EducationUSA in Dhaka https://www.educationusa.info/Dhaka The counselors there can help you with this process.

LonersPersona–Are you male or female? If you’re a girl, I recommend The Mary Louis Academy. It is a Catholic school for girls in Jamaica Estates (Queens). It is very diverse, drawing students from throughout all of Queens and beyond, from every imaginable racial and ethnic background, and of different religious faiths … not just Catholic (although Catholic students are in the majority).

If you are not female, you might want to consider another Catholic school … coed or all male. Urban Catholic schools commonly can be a safe haven for bright, ambitious students (whose local public high school is not desirable) regardless of the student’s religion. Although Catholic schools charge tuition, it is commonly MUCH less than the cost of a private school, and the chances of admission as a senior will probably be greater too. (The top private schools often don’t have any room for seniors.) Moreover, given that you are a strong student, you might even qualify for a scholarship.

Thanks for the replies and am extremely sorry for being late…

@Sally -Imma a boy btw Well about them Catholic School’s I really don’t have any general idea nor do I know if there are any located nearby where I’ll be staying …

But I’ll definitely be aware to look into this matter even more later on,and if it does have something better to offer than the Public Bryant School-it will be my first choice (:

@Icygnome -My big bro who lives with my aunt there, attended Townsend Harris -it is considered to be one of the most prestigious Honers School in NYC …But I don’t think I’ll be able to enroll in it the moment I arrive at my first go…What my bro told me is that, three months after I start classes at Bryant High I’ll get an opportunity to give a test and If I do well in it I’ll be transferred to a better school than Bryant which I don’t suppose isn’t going to be Townsend Harris or now is it? I really don’t know…

LonersPersona-Students at Catholic high schools in Queens commonly come from throughout the borough and don’t necessarily attend schools that are in or near their own neighborhoods. But if you tell me where in Queens you will be living, and if you also tell me if you’d be willing to attend an all-male high school for the year, I’ll see if I can track down a couple suggestions for you.

Well if the reputation and the education system is worth it …I have no problem of going regardless of the gender it allows just make sure the school’s transcripts and GPA system is good enough to put me to a reputable university. Thanks! :)

LonersPersona–I’ll see what I can dig up. Note, however, that a student can be admitted to a “reputable university” regardless of where he or she goes to high school. If the school is extremely understaffed and disorganized, you may have to make sure that the guidance personnel (assuming that they exist at all) will send your materials to colleges by deadline. But this is not a typical problem. So you should be concerned with spending your year in an environment where you can be happy and engaged, but don’t stress over the likelihood that the wrong school will mean no admission to a good college.

As promised, here are some suggestions of Catholic schools to consider. They come from a colleague/friend who is an administrator at a Catholic girls’ school in Queens.
