KingJames23: I hate to break it to you bro, but your chances at UIUC are really low. If I were you, I'd apply to some other schools.

I was very sad when I read this cause UIUC is my top school. I didn't really mean it as a mean comment, but more as a "hahaha look I got into my first choice college" happy comment.

AA probably did have something to do with it, but then again that's life. I also qualified at the 25 to 75 range of ACT scores, I've been in many extracurriculars activites with a leadership position in each one for three years min., I attended a very selective program that UIUC offers at Duke (I know that the admissions people have heard of this program), my teacher recs were really good, and I spent like three months writing and perfecting my essays since I really, really wanted to get in. So, sorry if you guys are upset about the AA thing, but no offense, get over it. Personally, I think it was something that helped, but not the sole reason that I was admitted.

What about internationals. I'm from the Bahamas and I have better scores and I am in the IB program. Would being black mean that I get in or have a high chance of getting in?
I have another year to apply btw. I'm just wondering

because god only performs a limited number of miracles and uiuc's engineering program is very *#@&ing hard to get into and I figured I might have a better shot at admission if I did biochemistry even though i want to go into engineering

Well, I got denied with a 3.56 gpa, and a 29 ACT, honors math, english, ss, science for all years. AP micro, macro,us history, and computers in 11th grade, AP calculus this year. I applied to buisness though, thought I'd have at least a good chance for LAS. I think they may have not considered me for lower than buisness though, so I'm gonna try and reapply for LAS. Hope I get in =(.

what about me?
indian, lived entire life in Indonesia. attending an underprivelaged missionary christian international school.
3.6uw
1340
680 chem SAT II
good EC's (190hrs Community service) (720hrs of tennis)
intended major : Biomed engg

I got into engineering with similar stats as you Taj- I was instate though
For some reason it seems like this school is desperate for international students( for the $$$) and non asian minority students and they seem to have a better chance of getting in than the locals.
Also my first year roommate was a latino and i remember he got his tuition bill which was a good amount( forgot the exact number) less than what i got- it was due to some latino scholarship he got even though he had bad grades and his parents were freakin rich- pretty retarded i must say

Well i just read imblues post about how competitive bio engineering is and how they only admit like 25 people every year....so i dunno...my situation might be different from yours as i got into a much larger program with similar stats
Good luck Anyways

"I was very sad when I read this cause UIUC is my top school. I didn't really mean it as a mean comment, but more as a 'hahaha look I got into my first choice college' happy comment."

While I congratulate you on your acceptance, I think what you said was pretty rude. What KingJames told you was appropriate, and quite honestly, accurate. If you're going to flip out when people give you advice, you obviously shouldn't be asking for it in the first place.

And you had attitude from the very beginning with your "thank-you-very-much". Seriously, it's uncalled for.

wow critikal, im surprised...business in uiuc is competitive but i asumed it wasnt that competitive, im sorry bout that, but yull get into las for sure.

As for the two page drama on attitudes, hehe, this is why u shudnt interpret tones in forum and online discussion. nothign comes out of it.

Take the ACT if you haven't already and change your intended major. UIUC is a mid-west school, and thus relies heavily on the ACT to rank prospective applicants. Basically, scoring above their averages will give you a great shot at being accepted. As for biomedical engineering, it is probably out of your league at this point as some people have already pointed out. Best of luck to you in fall 2006, though.

thanks brexford, i'll take that into consideration...the only reason i applied to UIUC's bioengg program was because it rather new and not highly ranked, so i figured not many people would apply to it...very surprised to learn that its competitive...

btw, do u have any idea about my chances at schools such as UMich-AA, GaTech, Case and U Wash (for bioengg)..
