Response and commitment

I have applied to 4 different universities and been accepted to one so far. My response date for one university is May 1st, but my other college’s (one of which is my dream school) won’t give me a response until May. If I send my commitment to a college and another one accepts me, is it possible for me to rescind my commitment? I’m worried about losing my opportunity to attend a University that I’ve been accepted to while waiting for a response from other schools.

This is a common dilemma, but not a big problem. You would likely lose your deposit at the first school, but that’s all that happens.

Yes, it happens a lot, for example when people are accepted to a preferred school off of the waitlist. This is the procedure:
–Deposit at the college you have been accepted to before the deadline
–If you get into your preferred college after then you: 1) let the first college know you will not be attending (preferably in writing like an email) and 2) deposit and enroll at your preferred college
–As noted above you will lose your deposit at the first school but that is a small price to pay to hold the spot.

Thank you for the information. This is a great weight off of my shoulders. I greatly appreciate your help in this issue.
