Response time for CSOM?

Hey guys,

I sent in my Minnesota app. It was completed on 10/2.
I have a 87/90 (about a 3.6/3.9)UW/W GPA from one of the best and most rigorous high schools in the state (OOS) with a 30 ACT. My school does not rank. I took 1 AP sophomore year, with 4 AP’s this year.

I wrote all three essays, and my college counselor classified them as strong.
My EC’s are strong, including founding a club and NHS.
I am an Asian American.

I applied to CSOM as my first choice with CLA as my second.

When do you think I’ll hear back?

Thanks

Both stats are within the mid 50% range - the uw GPA/rank are a tad on the low side but the 30 ACT is right where you need it to be. If UMN considers the weighted class rank (and there would be a strong argument for doing so IMHO) then that will boost your chances. Coursework is a primary factor as well so the 4 AP’s will help. Bio, Chem and Physics before graduation are all required for he more selective colleges at UMN (including Carlson) Carlson, and calculus is strongly preferred.

Right now they are working their way through the pool and accepting the strongest applicants first. Last year we knew an in-state applicant who had a better GPA/rank and a 29 ACT (so slightly worse) who was admitted shortly before the decision deadline. His stats were very solid for admission consideration, his EC’s were excellent, and he had applied early on. So go figure - sometimes there doesn’t appear to be a rhyme or reason.

You are obviously an easy admit for CLA so if you are still not hearing back as time progresses keep in mind that is good news because they could admit you to CLA anytime they chose to.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

@JBStillFlying thank you! I’ve taken all three sciences at the honors level, with the exception of physics. At my school, it was called honors, but it was actually 1 and 2. I’ve taken all the honors/AP classes that I am eligible for at my school. While I have not taken calculus, I have taken pre calc and am currently enrolled in AP Statistics.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it!
