Response to Liberals: Conservatives Unite

I was feeling left out. Now conservatives can unite! I have a very rough life living in maryland a ridiculously liberal state and going to school at a new hampshire boarding schoo which isl, as with most institutions of higher learning, decidedly liberal. I'm actually more libertarian than anything else, but hey, my mom is from Midland Texas so I love Bush.

I'm with you here.

I'm middling. I used to be way liberal because this is an oppressively conservative town, then I became Christian and discovered I agree with a lot of those viewpoints. I think it would be as aweful to be in your position as it is to be in mine; everyone trying to force their views on you either way. I spent so much time hating Bush blindly that I don't even know if I really do, but I must say this country is in darn good shape, so me must be doing a good job.

you consrvatives are welcome at the liberal thread....i luv to debate politics....and this country is hardly in pretty darn good shape.....considering that thousand of our soldiers are dying in Iraq, woman's rights are on the line as Republicans are trying to outlaw abortion, and No Child Left Behind is ridiculous....tkm, now you are blindly following the Catholic church instead of blindly loathing Bush.....sorry in advance i get riled up when talking politics

Well...my life in this country is pretty good :) I have no complaints. Plus greenday sucks hehe.

I am a moderate, but liberals tend to get out-of-hand. I don't like Bush, but I think in general conservatives are much more accepting of other views than liberals. Thus why I post here. Sometimes I feel like there's just too many liberals around (my state is conservative but my city is liberal) :) Go Conservatives!

Plus greenday sucks hehe

LOL meateater! :p

Haha yea, actually I'm a huge deadhead. about all I listen to is Grateful Dead. Probably one of 100 conservative dead heads in the country.

well, the world doesnt revolve around you, and I think we should look at this country as a whole. Troops are being killed becuz Bush rushed into this war in Iraq claiming that there were WMD.....which there weren't.....and mislead the nation. Homosexuals are not allowed to wed in all states but Mass., because they deem it morally wrong. (well, I think bombing abortion clinics is wrong!) So, well things may be all great for you meateater, things aren;t so terrifics for soldiers and gay men and women, along with people who have to suffer through listening to Bush speak and mispronounce words. We liberals like to think about others, not just be selfish.

take a chill pill. calm down. no one has even started a huge political debate here. no one's arguing with you. You don't have to agree, but let's keep the pointless rants to a minimum :p

OH jesus, clearly my comment was a joke. Your last sentence tells a lot about what I think many liberals are after, trying to feel liek they are better people because they are liberals It's pathetic really, substituting some facade of humanitarianism so you can feel better about yourself. I don't think that anybody is supporting bombing abortion clinics (I'm rolling my eyes) keep it a little less sensational shall we? Clearly the decision to invade iraq because of WMD's was based on incorrect info from the CIA, but we're still fighting for a good cause: democracy in iraq, seems worth it to me. And also, stop acting like gays are some wildy oppressed group. They can't get married, that's about all they can't do, and if you look under marriage in the dictionary it says "man and woman." I support civil unions for benefits but not changing the definition of the word marriage.

We're in pretty darned good shape compared to Mexico, countries in the Middle East, China, India, Russia, East Germany, southern France, Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, North Korea, Vietnam...practically anywhere that isn't northern North America.

I hate the No Child Left Behind act as much as the next person, being an AP student who spent most of her school years twiddling her thumbs because teachers had to prep us for standardized tests. The intent was good, it was just flawed and a bit too socialistic to work. I don't think we should have gone to Iraq in the first place, but now we're there we can't just out and leave. It isn't about pride and stubbornness, it's about obligation. You tear something down, you help rebuild it. If people don't like you there, you back off, but you don't abandon them. We have resources, wealth, and people willing to help, so we should do what we can.

Now, I said I was middling, not Republican. I'm a conservative Democrat. I think abortion is wrong, plain and simple. But I don't think it's right to deny people the choice altogether. There are certain circumstances in which the woman has a medical issue that would endanger her own life, or cannot support a child emotionally and financially. This is a very, very tricky issue, but I refuse to say outright that I will let people kill potential life if it can be helped.

Now let's introduce the Gay Marriage issue. I support it. I do not think homosexuals choose their orientation. They are chemically disposed to behave a certain way...and I say this because I had hormonal imbalances that made me act in destructive ways of a different sort. I think unions should be acknowledged, and financial rights given to all people.

Now I will have the conservatives on my back. But listen, a person doesn't have to base their views on whether they are labeled "conservative" or "liberal." They can have individual opinions on things regardless of party. Final word: I am not Catholic. But I am no longer Atheist, and I am much happier for it.

you are right, i got a little excited, but i did warn you that i get a little riled up. However, I dont take back what i said, and i didnt claim anyone was arguing with me, i was disagreeing with them. initiating a debate, thats all. And please dont label as someone who pretends to be humanitarian to make myself feel good. you do not know me, and I genuinely care about others so i take offense. And how can you say Green Day sux, they are awesome? My dad is a huge deadhead also, meateater, he cried when Jerry Garcia died. Also, i agree liberals can be extreme, but i see nothing wrong with being passionate about one's views...I am a far left and I am proud lol

Ayeyaya, GreenDayFan, I thought you were replying to me there. Phew. Let's establish this once and for all: stereotypes are wrong. Caricatures of either extreme, conservative or liberal, will not be found on this board. We are intelligent students seeking higher education. Republicans are not clinic-bombing, flag-waving hillbillies, and liberals are not narcisstic flag-burning reefers.

The only song I know by Green Day is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," and I can't help rocking whenever I hear it. Otherwise, I'm a strict Debussy fan :)

I hate greenday and all other emo for that matter. All of greenday's songs sound exactly the same. And I do think they're emo, even if others don't :p

I only took offense with the fact that you specifically addressed my "my life is good" comment earlier. Otherwise I don't mind debate or liberal views at all. Greenday does suck though :)

Question: What's emo? I can get an 800cr on the SAT, but I'm pitiful with slang

Score, I got an 800 on cr too! (High five) Emo literally stands for emotional, but refers to a whiny brand of punk/ not necessarily punk rock. usually boys with mascara and sad songs about breaking up with their girlfriends. See- My chemical romance, kind of blink 182, Coheed and Cambria, also less punk emo are bright eyes and dashboard confessional.

emo is like gothic, depressed kinda. i do not know the definition per ce, something along those lines?? Green Day is not emo, it is more punk/alternative rock. Anywayz, my previous thread was not in response to anyone one individual, it was to tkm, meateater, and celebrian.....btw celebrian, have u noticed that we have a lot of disagreements on these boards....lol

Oh my.. if you consider Maryland liberal (I used to live there).. you shouldn't ever go to California... California is by far the most liberal state. What surprises me is how the media coverage differs in conservative states vs. in liberal states. I went to Texas over winter break.. and they were portraying the happy Iraq liberation with pictures of smiling kids.. no mention of bombs or death. Back in California it was pictures of smiling kids followed by the latest suicide bomb attempts.
