My brother and I are stunned.

I heard this. RIP

RIP. This is very sad. Was this an accident or murder or possibly, God forbid, a suicide?

My parents and I were completely dumbfounded when we heard this.

RIP

I couldn't help thinking about him uncharacteristically missing a couple of field goals in the Rose Bowl. He wouldn't have been terribly upset about that, would he, when he made a couple as well and the team won?

We are deeply saddened by this terrible news. Our prayers to his family, friends, and the team.

What a horrible loss. Prayers for Mario and his family - and the whole USC family - He was loved.

PBK Mom - He only missed one field goal this year - at the Rose Bowl. He was an amazing kicker and I am truely saddened by this. May God Bless his family.

Thanks for that correction that it was just one missed field goal.

I see in the latest news that the police have most likely ruled out foul play and are focusing on an accident or suicide. It's so terribly, terribly sad.

I hadn't heard till now. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm pretty sure it was two missed field goal attempts at the Rose Bowl, by the way. Even IF the game had been close and Mario was somehow pinned for blame for missing those two FG goals, I hardly think it would warrant him feeling suicidal, IF it was a suicide. It's just football. Basically, I really, really hope that it was just an accident-- a tragic one, but with no foul play and no suicide. If it was a suicide, I really, really, really hope it had nothing to do with football whatsoever. It's a trivial thing to feel so bad over, in the end.

Letterman mentioned Mario Danelo in his Top Ten just a few days ago, how coincidental and possibly regrettable.

He didn't miss two field goals. He missed two extra points. And no, it has nothing to do with this.

Are the police doing any investigation on this?
