Hi, i’m visiting Brown in early August and i was wondering where is should eat/hangout/go to get a real feel for Providence and Brown. Going to the touristy places doesn’t let you see the real vibe. Where do all the Brunonians hang out?

Restaurants: Byblos, Spikes, East Side Pockets,or Shanghai.

Scratch that----anywhere on Thayer Street will fill your void.

Tell a tour guide what you feel like eating (type of food) and let them lead you there.

If you take a Physical Sciences tour, you can ask me.

Kabob is always delicious.

Also, check out Wickenden St. A lot of Brown students frequent it, and there are some good restaurants and shops (Coffee Exchange, the Brickway, Wings to go, Miko's...) . It's also got more locals than Thayer.

I am taking my D to dinner this weekend. She has been at the pre-college summer program. I think she would like to venture out beyond where she has been able to explore on foot. So, suggestions for things to do for the day and places to eat would be great. Any vegetarian restaurants?

Movinmom

The Garden Grille is a nice vegetarian restaurant about a mile or so north of campus. It's in a little plaza off Hope St. (which turns into East Ave.) just over the Providence line in Pawtucket.

On Thayer there is an Indian restaurant Kabob N Curry (?) which has alot of vegetarian items. There is an area near campus called Wayland Square that has alot of restaurants and there was one called Twist on Angell (Angell St) that was good. Wickendon area also has alot of stuff-Brickway is great for breakfast. A few miles from campus in downtown Providence is Federal Hill-an area of a long cobblestone street with tons of Italian eateries-many pasta options for vegetarians.

Excellent suggestions. thank you!

Just wondering what are some good/cheap sushi places? I might as well start mapping out the places to go on the days when the Ratty food sucks lol.

Sushi express, but have them make it for you. don't buy the readymade stuff.

There's another sushi place I think next to Spice on Waterman, but I haven't heard anything good or bad about it.

there is (or will be) a haruki express on waterman near thayer street i think
theres also a haruki east on wayland square and 2 japanese restaurants on wickenden

Map, loved the Garden Grille. Great recommendation. It is in a funny location but the food was excellent and great menu.

Glad you enjoyed it! Hope the rest of your visit also went well.

I think it's Food Week @ Providence. (read: prix fixe meals for mad discounted prices)

what's this food week you speak of?!?! and when is it?!?!

It's basically over, Rachel.

i am not in providence, so i cannot verify modestmelody's claim.

but!

maybe you still have a chance after all.

well, sounds like I won't starve in Providence :D

Sandwiches at Geoff's on Thayer St. are great. And they're two for the price of one on Tuesday's.
