Hi. We will be visiting Wake in a few weeks and were hoping to have a nice dinner somewhere nearby as it will be our S's birthday. We love all types of food, so any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks.

Thanks.

Sweet Potatoes
Ryan’s

dwhite: PM rockvillemom as well…

We’ve had good meals at
Noma
Foothills Brewing

Son says he really liked Mellow Mushroom, too. (H and I haven’t been there.)

Nothing exciting here - we have gone to chain restaurants like Red Lobster and the Olive Garden. S1 is not exactly an adventurous diner!

Thank you all very much. I will look into them. Food will certainly ease the pain of spending his 17th birthday (which falls on a weekend) with Mommy and Daddy instead of his friends!!

RVM - lol! Hey, at least he doesn’t cost you a fortune. My S is a full-fledged foodie - its like having dinner with Anthony Bourdain!!

I enjoyed Breakfast at Simply Yummy and a lunch and dinner at Village Tavern.
Good food and service , right outside the campus gate , on the way to admissions.

Maybe West End Cafe (a good local favorite) or Hutch & Harris (a little trendier and downtown).

You could also eat in the Deacon Tower, a nice restaurant in the new pressbox section of the football stadium.

We always enjoy the Village Tavern.

In Reynolda Village - Simply Yummy for lunch (great soups, sandwiches, frittatas), and Village Tavern for dinner (it’s very popular and they don’t take reservations, but the food is really good - amazing Spinach Dip appetizer and my S loves the grilled meatloaf; the atmosphere is warm and friendly). Ryans (believe it’s on Coliseum Drive) for dinner I’d also highly recommend - excellent steaks, seafood, and their pecan pie is to die for.

Ok - we definitely have to branch out.

!!!

Mellow Mushroom is the best downtown pizza place ever if you’re going really casual.
There are two Village Taverns – the one further from campus is bigger but the one closer has a heated outdoor tent/patio thing.
Simply Yummy has the best grilled cheese ever (they put brown sugar in it IT IS DELICIOUS I PROMISE)
Foothills is delicious too. I forget what I normally order there but the servers are all sweet.
If you like food of the Asian variety, I can definitely help you there – Sakura, Sushi Thai, Noma, Ishi (spelling?), and Downtown Thai (although a bit more expensive) are ALL awesome. Sakura’s Wake Forest rolls are awesome.
Mexican places areee La Carreta, Mi Pueblo, etc, but they’re not particularly fancy or anything.

Italian isn’t our specialty … we have a Carrabbas but that’s not exactly thrilling.

I’ve heard great things about Sweet Potatoes but have no personal experience. If you like ice cream definitely hit up Kernel Kustard (downtown).

So many great suggestions - thanks!

Looks like we may have to make time for several meals - Simply Yummy’s grilled cheese with brown sugar (?) sounds intriguing…

6th and Vine is my favorite restaurant in Winston-Salem.
Sweet Potatoes is really great too.

The three restaurants in Winston-Salem that I still miss are Village Tavern, Chada Thai, and West End Cafe.

Every time we visit my daughter, we go to Mozelle’s. In fact we just took her for her birthday this past weekend! It’s a family favorite. The menu is on the website. Also they take reservations unlike Village tavern (we always go there for lunch when it’s not as crowded). I love Mellow Mushroom too but it’s basically a pizza place.

I think I’ve eaten at Mozelle’s … is that the restaurant with the glass(?) or at least sheer walls so you can see outside?

Having a vague memory of eating some quality salmon somewhere but I can’t remember if it was Mozelle’s or Christopher’s?

Pink it does have glass all around so you can see outside. It’s on a corner and in good weather they have umbrellas and tables on the sidewalk.

This is probably too late but you should definitely go to Putters. Get the Gauc Rib eye sandwich.

Its a very WAKE place
