Heading up to Hanover to see DS for the first time since we dropped him off for orientation. Although we've been up to Dartmouth a few times when visiting last year, we are not familiar with the restaurants in the area (never stayed overnight before). We'll only be in town for Sunday and leaving Monday a.m. Any suggestions on where to go to eat? DS is a real 'carnivore' and does love steak (don't think he has been getting much of that at Darmouth), so would be particularly interested in anywhere that has a nice steak as a choice - DH and I are more fish and chicken lovers. Am also open to suggestions for any places that the students particularly love to go when parents are visiting. Thanks!

For steak, take a look at this - on the way out of town heading south on Rt 120 (not far at all):

Molly's. Their bread & butter alone makes eating there worth it.

Nothing wrong with the Hanover Inn for visiting parents.

make sure you have breakfast a Lou's (go early as they are crowed on the weekend)

Mum2

Restaurants: Molly's is pretty ordinary; Canoe Club on Main street has a buzz (and live music) but the food is not great (much of the food is just too sweet (!) Lous great for Bfast; coffee at Dirt Cowboy but the best restaurant in the area is Yama, a small korean restauarant in West Lebanon. It is always crowded and wonderful. For a special dinner in an amazing old house, do not miss Stone Soup in Strafford. Call to book. And no, I am not advertising. I just like good food.

Thank you everyone, for all of the wonderful suggestions. Will try one this weekend and keep the list for upcoming trips. Thanks again!

Lou's is not only great for breakfast but also has YUMMY bakery treats as well. I especially like the Hanover Fudge Cake and you can either eat it there or get it to go. I also agree with Molly's-they have great burgers as well as a big variety on the menu-I am sure the steaks are good as well! Enjoy the colors of the falling leaves. I was there last weekend and it is probably peak seaon right now for all those trees changing!

If your S is looking for steak at dartmouth, make sure he knows that he can get it at Homeplate. He'll know where that is. (And its on the dining plan).

as my son said, "let's go somewhere where I can't walk to myself." If you try the Simon Pearce, try to reserve a table overlooking the waterfall. It's a few miles south of WRJ, on Route 5.

yep, simon pearce is good.

Leaving in the a.m. to head north - so many good suggestions! Bulldog - thanks for the headsup on homeplate - will definitely tell DS about it. Looks like Simon Pearce is all booked so will have to save it until another time. Jesse's and Stone Soup look great for dinner - will check out Molly's and Lou's as well. Thanks again for all of the tips!

EBA's (Everything but Anchovies) is the restaurant of choice for most dartmouth students.

Yes, the students love EBAs, when they are on their own, paying themselves and ordering in to the dorms at 1 am. It is not where they would want their parents to take them. Or at least not where my D or any of her friends would want their parents to take them. When I am paying my D wants Simon Pearce.

We visited this past weekend, and invited DS and some friends for lunch. Initially, DS suggested Quizno's, which has recently opened. I laughed, and suggested that he save Quizno's for when he's paying for it himself, and we had a lovely time at Murphy's. (They have great fish tacos, by the way.)

I agree with Dartmom -- EBA's is fine for late-night pizza but awful for everything else. Molly's is one of my fav restuarants and is within walking distance. Molly's has great food and won't break your budget if you'd like to take some of your son's friends out as well. You can check out the menu here: http://www.mollysrestaurant.com/

EBA's has a pretty decent breakfast buffet if you get tired of waiting at Lou's.

my new favorite restaurant is The Orient.
