if I forgot any please add…

This is the definitive list. Lotsa good options on here though I would disagree with some of your ratings but I'm sure our tastes differ. I personally don't like really expensive food - I'd much prefer to eat at Magic Carpet or Bui's, Marathon Grill or New Deck. It really depends on what you're in the mood for - and the best part is that Penn can accom. all needs.

Philly has an amazing number of BYOBs and many are excellent. Don't forget these as many citites don't have such things. Also any student can buy or subscribe online for Zagat's guide or other foodie guides. Philly is a great restaurant city.

yeah Zagat's is awesome...my goal by the end of my 4 years is to go and try every restaurant on Zagat's top 50. lol

and yeah the BYOBs are awesome.

good list

New Delhi is another Indian restuarant on campus...decent, but Sitar is better

a couple add-ons to an already extensive list:
Moshulu (sp?) restaurant on a ship in the delaware river, great atmosphere, good food

Konak (Turkish restaurant at about 2nd and Vine: Simply Amazing and pretty reasonably priced)

Not sure of the names of the restaurants, but there are several at the Vietnamese markets at 10th and Washington and 6th (or 8th?) and Washington, most of which are excellent.

Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant- on Main Street in Manayunk, excellent all-around food and decent prices for Main Street. Several other good restaurants on Main Street, An Indian Affair (ok, not as good as the places at Penn though), Jake's (kinda like the white dog, but cheaper), Hikaru (good Japanese), Tommy Gun's (not technically on Main St., but they have the best pulled pork I've ever had) and what is supposedly be the best pizza in philly at Mom's Bake at Home Pizza. (Just take the R6 to Wissahickon station from 30th street if you're feel like leaving the Penn bubble)

Dalessandro's- with out a doubt IMO, the best cheesteakes in the city. Pat's and Geno's and to a lesser extent Jim's on South St. get the hype, but this place has consistently ranked higher than them in the Best of Philly awards, and it is well deserved. Well worth making the trip from Penn to Henry Ave.

The Reading Terminal Market- Probably the Most fun place to go get food in the entire city. It's hard to describe, it's really an indoor 'outdoor' market...just go see for yourself. Best ice cream in the city at Bassett's (you know, that stuff in the blue pints at wawa that you never buy because it doesn't look like Ben & Jerry's: try the raspberry truffle).

While we're at it, here's a rundown of a few philly diners (beyond Philly Diner), most are a ways from Penn, but some people like to go diner hopping, go figure

South Street Diner (2nd and South): Not 24hrs like the sign says (they close from 3-6am), but the food is good and the menu more extensive than Philly Diner, all day breakfast is served, and the prices are good, especially for South Street.

Oregon Diner (at about 2nd and Oregon or nearby there): arguably the best diner in the city, expansive menu, great food, 24hr service, all day breakfast

Bob's Diner (Ridge Ave): my personal foavorite because that's where I've gone for most of my life, they shut down their waffle iron in the evening and aren't open 24hrs though.

Little Pete's (17th Street): closest alternative to Philly Diner, and better overall, but is a small venue with a slimmed down menu

Melrose Diner (Snyder Ave): probably the most widely known of the philly diner's. excellent food and 24hr service

Nifty Fifties (MacDade Blvd. in Swarthmore and one in the NE somewhere)- not truly a diner, but one of those fifties-style places like Johnny Rocket's, not open 24hrs and really, really far, and not open 24hrs. BUT: the food is fantastic; their burgers are great, and their milkshakes are amazing and there's a wide variety of them, plus they have a gigantic old-style soda fountain. The nearest one of these is at about a 40 minute drive from where i live in the NW part of philly, but I have made the trip at all hours of the night numerous times: it's that good.

Note: I think i have to say this in my defense. No, i do not weigh 300lbs and move myself with a hand-truck; I've just been in philly my whole life.

anyone by any chance know of any korean restaurants in the phily area???

there's a good one called han-wool practically on campus, it's on walnut after 36th, in the same strip of stores as the wawa and pizza rustica

Tacconelli's Pizza
2604 E Somerset St, Philadelphia, PA
B.Y.O.B. pizzeria that's so in demand you have to reserve your own dough.

A true Philly experience. Call in the morning to reserve your dough!!!

I just heard about a place called cereality (or something to that effect) today on television. Has anybody on here ever been?

oh yeah i forgot about that place...it's a really random restaurant where you can mix cereals, etc. I've never been there.

Good selection and great walk a way containers.....great for a snack.

Insomnia cookies are kind of overrated. I guess the late availability makes up for it, though.

plus they can lace them with weed if you want...or so i've heard.

btw what is the name of the ethiopian restaurant on I think 42nd ? Dalac or something like that right? That place is good.

Bern, you forgot New Delhi, who actually have better Samosas in their buffee than Sitar.

Then there is a restaurant on 40th and chestnut, but I can't remember the name now. It is really god, just below the level of Pod but not as stuck up.

And lastly, yes Bucks County Coffee do have better coffee than Starbucks. But Avril 50 has even better coffee than Bucks, by far!

Good list. Also check out campusfood.com, they deliver from a bunch of places.

Allegro's is a great place to go for beer with a ****ty or chalked ID. You can bring your own alcohol to many places in philly, including Beijing. Check the dailypennsylvanian.com restaurant guide for details.

Quality Korean food is lacking in the city and on campus. The best place is Kim's in Northeast Philly. You can mapquest it :) Although I've always gone there in a car so you might need one. It's "real" Korean food - not like Han Wool.

Best dim sum - Joy Tsin Lau or Ocean Harbor on Race between 10th and 11th

Best Malaysian - Penang on 10th between Race and Arch

Other good places for Asian food... Rangoon (Burmese) on 9th between Race and Arch and Shiroi Hana (Japanese) on 15th near Locust.

I like Asian food.

Also there is great Vietnamese food (and markets) on Washington as was mentioned.

Also great Mexican food - my favorite place is La Lupe on 9th and Federal (right next to Geno's). Very authentic food, cheap, they have home-made tortillas. And I love the people that work there. I wish I spoke Spanish.
