Going to UP for Parents Weekend and would appreciate names of some good restaurants. Thanks

Tavern Restaurant (right downtown)
Kelly's Steak and Seafood (a bit of a drive - 15-20 minutes)
The Corner Room (also downtown - casual but good food)
Zola Bistro (expensive - one of the fancier restaurants)

Warning - in our experience, it is close to impossible to get a reservation on Parents weekend. Most restaurants won't TAKE them - and folks end up waiting hours to get seated. Kelly's or Zola will probably take a reservation. Both are good but also pretty pricey.

Facia Luna
You must sample sticky buns and Creamery ice cream.

Canyon Pizza

jk, don't go here.

The Deli
The Corner Room
Allen Street Grill (don't know about Parents weekend but they did take reservations at graduation)

Faccia Luna is definitely good for wood burning oven style pizza. They also have other Italian style items on the menu including homemade pasta. They are on S. Atherton and I found their parking lot a little small, but worth going.

I've been to both the Deli and the Corner Room. They are nice places within walking distance from campus in town. They both have everything from sandwiches to entr

You have to go to the Corner Room. We eat there everytime we are at Penn State. Very informal, great college atmosphere, burgers, sandwiches etc...Zola's is very nice. Small restaurant, food excellent. On the high side, but worth it. They do take reservations. We ate there parents weekend a few years ago with another couple. I've also heard the Deli is very good, daughter eats there all the time.

I would not recommend The Tavern. Ate there last year, the wait is forever. They told us it would be about a 45 minute wait, we waited easily almost 2 hours. You order an entree, and then you can order as many sides as you want. But everything was awful. All of us were very disappointed.

Wendy's! A #2 with a large chocolate Frosty. Hard to beat.

Not "fast food." Good food quickly. :-)

I just remembered Spats Cafe, its creole cooking. Excellent. Its my favorite in state college. They take reservations.

We love the Sunday brunch at the Nittany Lion Inn. Reservations recommended. We ate a later dinner at Champs Sports Grill when we moved him in August. The food was good, but it took forever to be served. almost 1 hour from ordering. The Tavern Rest. is good too.
has anyone eaten at Mad Mex at the Day's Inn?? We are staying there but never at there and love Mexican food. -- but afraid to try it without a recommendation.

The Penn Stater also has a good brunch. Mad Mex is pretty mediocre (I'd eat at Qdoba first) and I have to agree with lowermorelandmom about the Tavern. People go there for the ambiance (which it has in spades) but the food is terrible. Faccia Luna is a good idea; great pizza and a little off campus, so it might be less crowded. There is also the Allen Street Grill above the Corner Room; if you can score a table by the window it's a great place to relax and watch the hustle on the street. (It's the same kitchen as The Corner Room and Bill Pickles on Allen.) G Dad, Otto's is good. We have another great brew pub about 20 miles from here called The Elk Creek Caf

A new place on College Avenue just opened called Inferno Bar and Brick Oven. It is insanely cheap and the food is awesome. ($5 for a Gorgonzola salad, $9 for a personal prosciutto pizza) It is sit-down, contemporary looking, and yet has a family feel.

My favorite is Mcdonald's on College Ave.

We went to Prospector's Allegheny Rib Company last weekend. It's about 2 miles outside of downtown on West College Ave and Cato Ave. Pretty good ribs and BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. They also have burgers and chicken.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We went to Spats Cafe and Speakeasy because we were able to make a reservation there, and they seated us on time. The food is Cajun and on the pricey side, entrees between $21.00 and $35.00 and the food was very good, we would eat there again.
