[] Weaknesses: No hooks, extracurriculars are nothing special
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Stats are above average and I showed strong interest.
[*] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: George Washington (accepted), American (accepted), Georgetown (deferred EA), Yale-NUS (rejected), waiting on several more

Hmmm. I’m curious . Does W&M reject applicants, or just add every non-accepted applicanr to their waitlist. Everyone from my school who I talked to have been either accepted or wait listed. I have not yet come across someone who got rejected

Very happy!

pleasehelppp, I got rejected (OOS) :frowning: and I do know some people who got rejected as well.

My son was rejected. No wait list either. It was a reach school for him so he’s not overly shocked, surprised, or upset.

@pleasehelppp, we use all decisions (admit, waitlist, deny). It just so happens that some schools send super competitive students and no one receives the deny decision. We do very carefully use the term deny and not reject. We don’t reject anyone’s accomplishments; we simply have to deny some applicants admission.

@catloverforever and @ChrisVA1, we’re sorry we were not able to offer you (or your son) a space in the incoming class. No doubt you have some great options in front of you however and will have an amazing college experience.

Accepted OOS! I couldn’t believe it and still really can’t… Competition is so tough for OOS that I wasn’t confident I’d get in, particularly after a few earlier disappointments. I may definitely go to W&M though, which I love now even more than before! I’m so grateful to the admissions team for seeing something in me that I didn’t necessarily see in myself. Oh, it also feels awesome to be accepted because I was incredibly candid about myself in the W&M supplement. It feels like I’ve been accepted not only as an academic but as a human being! Sounds cheesy but it feels really great.

ADMITTED!!!

In state, 1540/2290, top 3%, all 5’s ap’s so far (eng comp, euro and us history, psych), 9 ap’s overall, strong focus on running (4 yr letters in indoor/outdoor track and c-c), not tons of other activities but some awards in art, interested in pre-med, very happy and visiting the school today!

Son admitted OOS! Thrilled and booking our flight to accepted students day in April. Congrats to all who received the Good Things email and to those who didn’t keep your chins high. Thanks to the admissions office for taking the time to carefully evaluate all applications. We are very grateful you saw our son for the exceptional person he is.

[/ul]General Comments:
Super excited to be accepted!! :)

D was admitted. In state public high school. 4.36 GPA, 2050 SAT (definitely the weak point). 9 APs by graduation- world, USH, Psych, Lang, Lit, Spanish, Bio, Gov’t, and Calc. Lots of focus on her sport, both playing and coaching younger kids. Normal volunteer stuff (tutoring, soup kitchen, etc). Lots of school awards, and a fantastic rec from her guidance counselor as well as, presumably, other teachers. Very happy with this decision, and it was the last one she was waiting for so I’m delighted that she is DONE! Congratulations to everyone. W&M is a great school and Williamsburg is truly a lovely town.

Is requesting financial aid something that could hurt a student’s chances of being admitted? Even is D did not get any, we could afford to send her…I hope that was not a determining factor.

Denied - 3.5 GPA/28 ACT - not surprising, as it was our reach school. I told my D that if we don’t get rejected, sorry, denied, somewhere, we probably didn’t do the college search correctly.

In summary:

VCU - Accepted
Christopher Newport - Accepted
Kentucky - Accepted
George Mason - Accepted
JMU - Accepted
Va Tech - Waitlisted
Richmond - Waitlisted
W&M - Denied

This is exactly the hierarchy that I deduced prior to doing all of this. I think it is fair. My D had terrible grades her Freshman year - 2.7. And even though she pulled them all the way up to a 4.1 for her first semester Senior year, it would be unfair to categorize her with the overall 4.0 students as they worked and achieved throughout their entire high school career. We are very satisfied and it shows how some of the little things we DID do, helped us climb into a school we both really like, that being Madison.

Good luck to all and thanks W&M Admission for all of your posts!
