[] Strengths: Essay, extracurriculars.
[] Weaknesses: Test scores.
[] Why you think you were waitlisted: I am really not sure. Out-of-state residency or white male? If anyone has any input, please let me know.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: [/li]Accepted: Denison University (full ride), St. Olaf College, Ohio State, University of Texas at Austin
Waitlisted: UVA
Rejected: Northwestern, Vanderbilt
Waiting to hear from USC.
[/ul]General Comments: I would love to hear input as to why I was waitlisted! I am not angry, I just would really like to know so I can strengthen my application for transfer admissions (though likely not to WM – more likely Northwestern).

@CArbington, we don’t break down admission rates for particular geographic cohorts behind the admit rate for in-state and out-of-state. As internationals, for the most part, are out-of-state, the admission rate is around 25-28% depending on the year.

@Quentin614, the fact that strong, successful students such as yourself are on the waitlist is simply evidence of how strong our applicant pool is across the board. And of course, admission is more competitive for out-of-state applicants as we have far more applicants for far fewer spaces.

Plus your SAT Math score is low for W&M.
The 75th percentile score is 720.

And you may have loved your essay but there is no way to tell how it was viewed by the people who matter.

Sorry you did not get into W&M. As others have said here many, many times - there are a lot of other great schools. Good luck!

Quentin614, with all due respect, you were accepted to UT Austin and still fretting over W&M?? Austin is one of the most desirable college towns in the nation, and UT Austin is one of the most recognized Universities in the US. Quit kicking yourself and get that deposit into UT!!
