Just got email that admission decision would be posted on my son's online application at 5pm EST today. He auditioned on Jan. 24th in NYC.

fingers crossed here for your son Pukadad

omg, that's so soon after your son's audition! Good luck!

Percussion S admitted today!!! Very excited.

Congrats! Classical percussion?

a friend of mine got in for clarinet! he's so amazing though... there's no way he wouldn't have gotten in.

Well, the news was not positive here but everything is OK. S obviously would have liked to have been excepted but was thankful to have passed the pre-screen and to have had the chance to audition in NY. We leave in a few hours for Indiana where I really think his heart is. Realistic expectations upfront for both the parents and kids really help when the news isn't always good. The odds at Juilliard are so small that no matter how good you are you can't expect to be accepted. Congrats to your son and your family AWF! I'm wondering if we met you while we were in NYC??? What state are you from? We are from the Dallas area.

Pukadad, you have a great attitude, and I'm sure your son's audition today will be terrific--best of luck!

Good luck at IU. My son is a freshman there - feel free to pm me if you have questions.

AWF family - congratulations. I remember the feeling! Percussion is a tough area - lots of competition. I'm not around here much anymore, since my kids are older now, but if I can answer any questions about Juilliard (my S graduated from there last year and is now a grad student there), PM me. (I started on these boards much like you - I lurked during his senior year of HS, and finally got up courage to post once he'd been accepted! I think I was afraid to "jinx" it prior to that.)

Pukadad, I have to echo others about your great attitude. I remember my S telling me that his biggest fear about auditions is that WE would be disappointed in him. Understanding that there are far more well-qualified students than openings takes some of the sting out of it. (Unfortunately, those times pretty much become a way of life for our music kids - annual school placement auditions, concerto competitions, summer programs, professional auditions... Fortunately / unfortunately one does get somewhat used to not getting picked! I still get disappointed, but no longer so terribly crushed.) I love IU - my S performed there once, and we loved the campus. My S's best friend from HS went there for oboe and loved her time there. I hope the audition goes well, but more importantly, that your S lands exactly where he should be!

Pukadad,
Our son auditioned on Jan. 23rd. First audition. He has been in Pre-college for 3 years.

Sorry for the letdown, but as stated above, you have a great attitude and that is really important for you and your son. We knew when he looked at the decision, we knew it would have a huge impact on him and his future. We kept reminding ourselves that nobody gets in to Juilliard and that the odds against getting in where immense. We are still taking it in. He asked the next morning if it was still true...

SJTH,
Yes, classical percussion.

AWFBTFRKF - I have been communicating with Pukadad about his experiences at IU since my son is a percussionist also and considering IU. We visited last weekend and met with the admissions person at Jacobs. Was your son admitted? What was his audition experience like? I am trying to determine whether my son has a chance on getting in. I hope you don't mind me asking.

Our son didn't apply to IU, so no insight into that process.

Good Luck!

Hi everybody
I have an audition at Juilliard drama division on the 30th of January. And I am really confused about the classical comic monologue. I want to read one from the play by Moliere but I can not identify if it is written in verse or not. If anyone could help me by giving suggestions I would be really glad.

Hello,

I speak French and I studied Moli

thanks! I"d be glad to use your help. I have read some of his plays on Russian and Georgian and they are in verse but English one’s I saw are not. I am thinking about ZERBINETTE’s monilogue from THE IMPOSTURES OF SCAPIN

Is it Act III Scene 3 ?

It’s definitely not in verse but in prose I don’t know why I thought almost all Moli

How do you think can it be because of the translation? Maybe I shall try to find different one? Or can you suggest a good comic monologue from other play. I do not remember that well an I do not have time to go on looking for it.

Nope it’s not because of the translation because I have the book in French just by my side right now and it’s all written in prose. But don’t you have to do it in French ?

Errr I don’t know that much about theater but this one sounds really hard, with all the 'ah ah ah" and “hi hi hi” and the strange punctuation and the character seems to have pretty contradictory feelings. If I had to do that I’d have choosen one monologue in one of Corneille’s tragedies I think but I don’t even know what requirements you have so it’s your choice.

ninuca, there is a separate forum for theater/drama majors. [Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential](Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential Forums)

I would suggest you repost there, as there is more discipline specific expertise.

Good luck.
