results from my school - interesting!

1710? that's surprising, but you're right, maybe the program helped.

goodcolleges, does your friend have any superstar EC?

Those stats posted by the OP are excellent but it's a little misleading because the OP goes to a well-known, competitive high school (TJ) in a competitive area (state of VA). Such schools have unique track records and relationships with colleges (meaning colleges treat them differently). The results aren't much help if you go to a normal public or private high school in an area that's "mediocre" in comparison.

he was african american...but i dont know much about his EC's

Yeah no disrespect to the OP, but stats from Thomas Jefferson are about as useful as stats from Andover. You guys had, what, like 15 USAMO qualifiers?

thank you weasel

thats exactly what I was thinking. my school has 1 ap bio class of 12, whereas i hear they had like 3 full classes or somthing.

take these with a grain of salt

It would also be nice if you posted every single college from each person that got accepted.

There is a thread started by firewalker that has more details and photos of the stats from this high school.

gosh. you guys don't appreciate anything!

Dam right we don't. ;)

Well, I'm serious. The stats are not useful. They are, however, interesting, so the thread does live up to its title. Congrats on your successes, TJ!

I didn't read through the entire forum so sorry if I'm reiterating a point but..

Don't be alarmed and scared from the numbers. Thomas Jefforson is a VERY VERY elite school in Virginia.

I'm presuming these GPAs are weighted GPAs since some of them are above 4.00? With this in mind, the stats don't appear nearly as impressive GPA-wise--althrough the SAT scores are impressive.

Some schools' maximum GPA is 4.3; an A is a 4.0 but an A+ is a 4.3 (my school works this way). Also, weighted means different things at different schools. At one school, a student may get a 1 point bump for an AP course. At my school on the other hand, we get 1/3 of a letter grade bump (B+ to A- for example) but an A+ stays an A+. Thus the maximum GPA at my school is still 4.3. So here's my point: a weighted 4.2 at one school may be very different from a weighted 4.2 at another school even if the difficulty level of the two schools is exactly the same. Thus you really can't say how impressive the TJ GPA is.

at TJ, Ap courses get an extra 0.5, and an 'A' is a 4.0 (94-100)

usually the GPA's aren't that high because a) our courses are harder b) only 94+ is an A as opposed to 90+, and c) since we have so many required courses, such as science labs, computer science, etc, we don't have many free periods to take more AP's

oh, and the GPA's are weighted.

Do you have any numbers for Harvey Mudd?
Thks

Never mind -- found the list!
