Could people anyone who attended/are in/got into boarding schools please post their stats and the results (acceptences, waitlistings, and rejections). They have something like this on the regular CC forum, and it would be helpful, just so we could see the stats of people who actually got in. Thanks.

Nice thread. I'm looking forward to reading the posts.

you'll probably have to wait till March 10th tho

There are a lot of people here who are in prep school, or at least who have kids in prep school.

My S - accepted this year as a 9th Grader at Milton, Choate & Hotchkiss. Waitlisted at Andover & Deerfield.

95% - SSAT, Mostly A's (few B's) in Middle School, Heavy sports, few other ECs, very good interviews

Jmlbo, you mean he is a freshman now? Where did he go?

I'm applying to Choate - I hope I'll get in. :)

how could you know yet? theres no early notification...? are you a day student? do you need FA? any real good hooks? how good are you interms of athletics? like, recruiting material?

i think he means that he was accepted last year, so this year he's a freshman at whichever school he chose to go to.

94% SSAT, 26 ACT in 8th grade
Applied for 10th grade
switched to private school in 9th grade (apparently this really helped)
All A's except for one B in spring term
ECs- soccer (11 years), basketball (9 years), piano (3 years), violin (3 years), girl scouts (12 years), community service (6 years), academic summer camp (3 years)
accepted to Andover
waitlisted at Choate
preferred waitlist at Taft, Middlesex, and Lawrenceville - these were the "let us know if we are your first choice" letters
rejected at Exeter - I didn't actually want to go there so I only wrote two or three sentences for the essays

why was transferring to private school a big help?

Also, (to anyone) does it seem like that Choate accepts people who don't get into Andover, Exeter, etc.?

Several of my interviewers said that it shows a desire to learn, which is what these schools want. It also showed that I could handle the workload and stress of a top tier school. I think that it also made my grades count for a lot more since there was less grade inflation than at most public schools.

blairt, relax. This thread is for students who have already been acceptance to prep school from last year and the years before.

olivia567 - Sorry for the confusion. He was accepted early this year so he's a freshman now at Choate.

Thanks, jm! I sent you a PM. :) (hey, that rhymes)

lol sugarkim, i find it funny that u were waitlisted at taft, middlesex, etc. but was accepted into andover. ^_^

you'll find that's very common with stronger applicants sabregirl. If they think that a student will get into the higher level schools that they are applying to they will give you a preferred waitlist. They know that a student who gets into AE will most likely go to the higher school. Schools put these kids on preferred waitlists so that their yield numbers are higher and they still have a chance of getting the more qualified students if they don't get into the higher schools.

ohh, guess that definitely makes more sense.

geez, i feel kinda worried now lol. but congratulations on that- you must've had one heck of an application for that to happen.

Don't feel worried, plenty of kids get into many schools they apply to. I didn't have that outstanding of an application compared to many of my friends and kids on this forum. I think they were looking to fill their Colorado quota.

sugarkim, I'm assuming you attend Andover now. How do you like it there? Can you give me a brief review of your thoughts on the campus/academics/student/etc.? Thank you.
