Yes, I do attend Andover now. I love it there. I love the campus. It's nice and big, but the academic buildings are all close together. Overall the dorms are nice. The campus also has a nice feel to it. It's a nice laidback feel even though the work can be so stressful.
The academics are top notch. The teachers want to see everyone succeed and get to know their students. They care about your life outside the classroom, which I've never had from teachers before.
The students are amazing as well. Most are very mature and responsible. I'm very good friends with kids who I'd never even talked to at my old schools. It's amazing to have friends from all around the world and to be able to discuss important issue with kids my own age. I couldn't be happier anywhere else.

hmm. now I really REALLY need to get into boarding school.
I want to experience what you are right now.
Did you have a specific hook?

I really didn't have a specific hook. I think it was a combo of changing schools, being from Colorado, and having a passion for bio (all of my interviews revolved around these).
Not everyone needs a specific hook to get into a top school. Keep in mind that you do not always know what your hook is.

Do they have preferred waitlists for Choate? The thing is that I'm applying to Andover and Choate, but if I were accepted to both, I would probably/definitely attend Choate.

I doubt Choate does, but I don't know for sure

do you guys know the average number of students that get accepted to Choate? (preferrably juniors)

I knew it, but I've forgotten it now. I could probably find online for you.

oo that'd be great thanks.
I've tried to look but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place

All I could find was on here: http://www.choate.edu/admission/contactadmissions.asp

Where it says one of the people was in charge of "three thousand students annually". You can search for the phrase. I didn't really understand; did that mean he was in charge of 3,000 people who apply to Choate? But I'm pretty sure they don't have that many.

hmm i know andover has about 2400 applicants each year

Really? Wow, considering that they only let about one-fifth in.

hmmm. maybe that number is wrong then?
but I remember reading that somewhere.

Well, that would mean that they only have a 30 percent yield I think. You're probably right though ... it's 1 AM and I'm pretty tired. Night. :)

This is a good article about the admissions process at Andover. About 2250 kids applied and 449 were admitted last year.

Thanks, sugerkim.
You're up late... are you on break? I am, but I expect I will be very tired tomorrow morning. :)

Sugarkim...you're not that strong of an applicant. 94 percentile isn't impressive at all, a lot of students recieve 97+. Everyone that applies is waitlisted if they're not accepted...

Oh, you're back. Well, actually, her average SSAT is above Andover's average, and it's pretty impressive, considering she's in the top 6 percent of all private school students who take the test. And you don't deserve to degrade people; you're supposed to encourage them.

To everyone who's on this board - please don't answer Masterus and be drawn into arguments with him. That's what happened the last time, and the thread was shut down. He does this all over CC, and you will just play into his hands if you respond. Just a thought.

Good Advice, jedwards. I wish I had only read his posting history before being sucked in a while back. Looking at recent posts, I don't think much has changed.

same here, and I agree.
