Resume for Common Application

Can you attach a resume to the common application instead of using the activities section, because it limits your word count to a restrictive amount and also allows you to only put in 7 or so activities (although I suppose you should really only put the larger ones that you were the most involved in, right?) but I feel like I need to elaborate more than the space allows. Also, you do not need to use the teacher reccomendation form on the common application, a normally written letter format one is fine, right?

Yeah, you can attach a resume.

As far as I know, schools vary on how they treat applicants who send something else instead of the Common App Teacher Evaluation–some are okay with it and some aren’t. I don’t think it’s too much hassle to have your teacher fill out the form and then just attach their letter. That’s what my teachers did, and I think it’s what your teachers should expect to do if they’ve dealt with many Common App applicants before.

I suggest you feel out the activity section even if you do attach a resume since they may assume that you don’t have any ecs first.

Also, I believe the common app teacher eval form asks the teacher to attach a letter. However, they should still feel out the form.

Do you know if attaching a resume would be acceptable for Cornell? I assume many of the applicants may have done that. Should I fill out the activities segment of the Common App and then just say “see resume for full description?”

It should be acceptable for all schools. I would still thoroughly describe your activities in the section itself. There is an “additional information” section on the common app (which Cornell uses) that allows you to put a resume. Admissions officers would definitely see that.
