If I am a freshman at UC Berkeley, and haven't done much so far in my 1st semester of my freshman year, then how can I have a competitive resume for an internship? Also, how can I even get letters of recommendations if I have done only 1 semester and this is at Berkeley, which there are about 300 students per class?

Most freshmen don't have competitive resumes yet, so the best thing is just trying to get work experience. It's not like you're behind, but try to get a job this summer, maybe related to the field you're working in. It's good to go ot teacher's office hours to get to know theem personall,y or sometimes they will offer to invite students for dinner, and that's a great time to get to know them. I really wouldn't worry to much right now as a freshmen, but if you want to get a head start make sure you are working somewhere this summer. Also, the general rule is that you can keep high school stuff until the end of your sophomore year on your resume, so you must have some high school accomplishments (or else you wouldnt be at berkeley!) you can put there. They should pad your resume a bit to get some decent college work experience. Good luck!
