Resume for Summer Music Program application

I know, there are lots of music resume how-to websites, for high school applicants and for people with a college degree or two. But here is my question: student is a college sophomore. At what point do all those high school activities, awards, etc. drop off the resume? The student doesn’t have a degree yet – but also is no longer in high school. If ALL the high school age activities come off, that will be a slim resume indeed. Any ideas or suggestions?

I think he can still (selectively) include major things from high school. High school definitely should drop, for the most part anyway, once he graduates. That;s my take anyway.

I would slowly eliminate the earlier items as he progresses until they all disappear when he graduates.

For a summer music program, for college soph age, the cumulative music-related experiences can show the depth, level, and commitment. It provides background. You don’t want to go with just what’s been done in the past year and a half. But drop the lesser parts. Eg, some award for being best in the hs band may not be as important as some regional recognition.

I’m assuming this summer program is performance related-?

Thanks, everyone! I was just looking at the resume and suddenly wondering if all the HS stuff should still be there. It sounds like a portion of it will remain for now.

Yes, lookingforward, it’s a performance-related summer program.
