Okay. So I've recently updated my resume and...it's rather long. Would it be "unacceptable" if it were longer than 1 page? Also, my honors/awards and community service sections are super extensive. If I tried to condense the lists, then I'd be taking away character from the resume.
Also, should I have an "about me/my interests" section (in addition to community service, education, extracurriculars, & honors/awards)?
It's so perplexing and I'd greatly appreciate it if someone on CC were to help me!

Thanks!

What is the resume for? Job application? College application?

Personally, I would say keep it no more than 2 pages long. If you need to, perhaps play with the margins. Also, see if you can summarize/condense any descriptions you may have.

I wouldn't have an "About me/my interests" section, especially if you already have a very extensive resume. That sort of thing would be better addressed in a cover letter.

Are you applying to any colleges that require a resume? For me, it was useful to have a long, extensive resume, then to fit all of that information onto the application. I never sent my resume to colleges, per se. (Actually, I did send a music resume.) However, if you are going to send a resume, I think two pages is too long; one page (with very thin margins) is good if you are sending it to people. A resume that you are using for your own reference can be as long as you want.

I usually have a 2-page, extensive resume that I can then tailor to my needs before sending - sometimes I make it into a math/academic resume, sometimes a music resume, sometimes a broader mix. But as mentioned, you don't need to send a resume (unless some colleges ask for one?) - on applications, there is room to explain your activities and awards, and if there is not enough room, there is always a section for additional info where you can put more (I think: at least, all of my apps had such a section.) Good luck!

That was very helpful, lalaloo6. I believe the colleges to which I hope to be admitted require a resume. My only problem: I'm undecided, so I have interests that relate to both the fields of science and journalism, making my list rather long.
