Resume Padding?

Our school has kind of weird situation in which we are the first graduating class but haven't been at our school all four years. Needless to say, we have few clubs, and the ones that exist aren't exactly academic. I was considering starting either a model un club, or a literary magazine during this next year (senior year), for the sole purpose of interest and to have fun. Would that look like resume padding to adcoms, even if I did it out of passion and the fact that we have nothing like them available?

If you’re wondering whether it will look like resume padding, then you’re probably resume padding.

Well thanks for the response, but no. The reason I was asking was because I have seen so many people posting their stats on the “chances” thread, and everyone telling them they were “padding their resume” because they were in a club their senior year. I have a real desire to start something that could give an outlet to myself along with other kids in my school who don’t have another way to express their interests.

My school has literally no clubs. Its been open for only a couple of years, and so nothing has really taken off except for “class required” (yearbook, etc) clubs. I attempted to start a writing/“coffee house” club last year like one that I had been a part of at another school, but that didn’t really take off as “ping pong club” and “nap club” took place at the same time. I really think that the possibility of a literary magazine is possible, as myself and some other students enjoy writing stories, poems, and music. I’m trying to find a way to re-vamp the writing/“coffee house” type club I attempted last year, but in a more accessible way to other students.

Well, if you are worried about it looking like resume padding, start the club and don’t put it on your resume.
