I am working on my resume for a possible internship this summer and I'm pretty sure that the competition is going to be stiff so I'll need something to set me apart.

I currently run 2 blogs that could be deemed "professional" since they are not diaries/journals, but instead offer advice and critiques of different things within my niches. Would it be appropriate to put this on my resume? Do enough people know what a blog is? Or are blogs looked down upon? I mean, you can't go on a professional website without running into a blog, and the internship I'm applying to has a blog on the company's website, so I don't think it's necessarily looked down upon. But would it be appropriate to put down "Blogger"? Or perhaps "Writer"? "Web-publisher" has also been suggested from another source. What do you think?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

Interesting. Not a parent…but, I can help.

I think enough people know what a blog is. Some people might look down on blogs because they tend to be diaries. But if you prove them wrong, kudos to you! Out of the titles, I’d probably pick “Blogger” and “Web-publisher.”

Just make sure there’s nothing inappropriate on this site–and that this is something you’d want to show to employers. I think it might set you apart if it is as you discussed! =]

I’d say blogger and provide the titles and urls. Web publisher sounds a bit pretentious.

But I’d also suggest getting someone to look them over first to see how they read. For some businesses, blogging would be a great asset, but it would matter how you write the “critiques of different things within my niches.”

Do you critique in a positive way?
Have you critiqued the business to which you are applying?
Is there anything in the blog that would offend those at the place you want to work?

Is the blog in any way related to the positions you’re applying for? If so then it might be a plus, but if you’re blogging on a totally unrelated subject then I’m not so sure how much it will make a difference.

Whether to include the blogs on your resume depends on whether they reflect positively on you–whether you would want possible employers to read them and whether they would likely be helpful to your cause.

Of course, some employers have started doing on-line searches on potential employees just to see what their on-line persona looks like, so this may turn up your blogs anyway (if your name is there and fairly unique/searchable).

As others have said, I’d also go with “blogger”, include the URLs and brief descriptions.

Ok, so the consensus seems to be that “Blogger” is the most appropriate, and it can’t negatively affect me, as long as it is appropriate?

Thank you!
