resume question

This is not an individual award, so I don't know if this belongs on my D's resume under the awards section or not, but it doesn't feel quite right to leave it out either. She was on the editorial staff of her school's lit magazine and she also had a piece published the year the magazine won a national award (I think it's the highest award the magazine has recieved). Is there any approrpiate way to add that to her resume?

How 'bout:

Staff, Name of Publication, which won XXXX Award, 2009

Or you can have a separate section of the resume with the heading “Awards”.

My title was misleading since this is really a Common App. question that got me thinking. Actually, she has done both of the suggestions on her resume. She has a section: Awards and Honors and she indicates that she is ediorial staff and the award. I think what gave me pause is when she filled out the Common App. Honors section it states “Please any academic honors you have received…” Does it belong on the Common App. if it’s not an individual award?

She has nothing to lose by including it under the honors section of the common app. It would be helpful for the admissions office to know she was on the staff of a national award-winning publication.

I wouldn’t list it if she was just on staff and not editor. There’s an additional info section, right? Maybe there?

I haven’t looked at the Common App so I’m probably not a lot of help. Ds said he wants me to look it over when he’s done, but he’s not done yet.

Well, she wasn’t editor in chief, but she was a member of the editorial staff. They group edit and select material. She has a separate section of her resume for leadership and she doesn’t include that activitiy there–only leadership positions she has been awarded or named to. I think I am being sticky about this, because her writing is one of her talents that she will highlight on her application and in her interviews, so I agree with Northstarmom that it would be helpful for AOs to know.
