Same question here, but I'd also like to know whether we should just print-off and send in the form found on the USMA website, or whether we should type up a more personalized piece.

Most congressman/senators have info for recieving a packet from them on their websites. If not use the letter on USMA site. Applying to each senator or congressman is like a seperate college app. Send the resume when you send the packet in. And dont forget to apply to the vice pres.

Just to add onto what cadetfor5 said, most senators do have application forms on their websites but some require a candidate to send a letter to the congressman/representative and then they will send you the packet in the mail.

I sent in a short resume with the letter from the USMA website. A few weeks later all the senators sent me their own forms to fill out.

MJ, you're from Hawaii? Where? I got my nomination through Senator Inouye's office. All I did was call and ask them for a packet.

yeahhh! aloha!

i'm from honolulu.

do i just print the nomination letter & attach a resume?

then, does sen. inouye's office send me a packet?

how does this work?

btw, where are you from?
nice to meet a hawaii kid.

mahalo

MJ, I'm an Army brat, so I haven't lived there for years but my family's from Waianae.

I just checked Senator Inouye's website, and it says to call and ask for a packet. http://inouye.senate.gov/ then go to offices, call the Honolulu one, explain who you are and that you'd like a nomination packet. What do you mean "nomination letter?"

The process was pretty easy. I don't remember an essay, but there was an interview with his assistant, Alexis Lum. Great man, retired military, fascinating to talk to. I do remember being the only one to not come in a uniform. I wasn't in JROTC or CAP or anything like that, so I just dressed nicely and went. Must have worked, I ended up with the senior nomination from the senior senator, so I carried the Hawaii flag for the Fourth of July during Beast.

Be prepared for the winters here, they SUCK. Pack warm. Don't worry about going home for Thanksgiving, someone will probably adopt you...and you can adopt them back for spring break!

Don't forget about the care packages! Kimi balls and rice candy and munchie crunch from my grandma always made my day.

serious? they get picky about that? so the pri nom's from senior senators get special treatment? i cry foul!

It's only for the one ceremony, and it was the third day of Beast...How would you choose who got to carry the state flag?

put it in the middle and have those willing fight for the honor. :-)

mahalo.

you're from WAIANAE?
shoots. that's awesome.

idk, i opened up a WEST POINT file and one of the directions was to print out the "nomination letter" and send it to sen. inouye, neil abercrombie, and VP dick cheney.

i guess i'll send the letters & attach my resumes.

i'll also call them for a packet.

haha.

thanks for the info about the winters. i bet you miss the warm hawaiian waters. and also SPAM, lihingmui, & shave ice. haha :) :) :)

thanks for the reply.

ALOHA!

Yah, cover your bases brah, it's important. SPAM not so much, but lihingmui was great at Buckner for something to suck on while I was in the prone for hours and hours. Drop by Matsumoto Shave Ice and have one for me.

Hmm, foul indeed! I have been led to believe everyone starts at zero at West Point and has to earn privleges from scratch (other than recruited athletes who as much as I love em, get special treatment anywhere they go) I know Senators noms are considered a little more prestigious in the admissions office, but i never imagined it affected you once you were in.
