Resume

In the college application process, is there a place where you can send your resume as well ?

I graduated high school in 1988 and applied for college for this September. One college had a space to “cut and paste” your resume in the online application, and the other did not. In the one that did not, I mentioned my work experience in my essay.

I am sure you could send your resume in with your application if you wish, if you want to do more than mention it in your essay and there’s no space designated for it in your application. Another option is to send a recommendation from your work supervisor. Your work history is definitely relevant, and I think it will help your chances if you make the admissions offices aware of it.

From the CA:

Yep, you can include it in the additional information section at the end of the common application.
Make sure that your resume doesn’t repeat any information already stated elsewhere in the application.

Thank you all. I’m assuming that colleges have this additional information section. Even those which don’t use the common app.

@numbersense

I think it depends on the school you are applying to. For example, MIT doesn’t want you to put your resume.

No school wants you to put your resume in additional information. There is space on the application to put in all the parts of your resume that are relevant.

^I agree, I think there are relatively few applicants that really need to attach a resume due to numerous or detailed significant ECs. But it’s like swimming upstream to say that, everybody thinks they’re special and that their activities must be explained in full for adcoms to truly understand the impact of their particular ECs :rolleyes:,

The Common Application recently announced changes for 2013-2014, and documents (including resumes) are no longer allowed to be uploaded. See: [Changes to the Common Application Announced for 2013-2014! | Sentia Education](http://www.sentiaeducation.com/blog/2013/02/10/changes-to-the-common-application-announced-for-2013-2014/)

“the revised common application will not allow students to upload documents, such as resumes or statements, to the additional information section of the common application. Beginning next year, only text will be allowed in this section.”

^Thanks for the CA update.

If I were an ad com, I would hate resumes attached in addition to the actual application. Would not want to pick through the resume for additional information that isn’t already on the app… time consuming. I think in today’s application environment it is much better to use the space on the Common App, and put any info that won’t fit somehow in the additional information section. Supplement in the additional info section, don’t rehash what is already shown elsewhere in the application.
