anyone planning on submitting a resume w/ the application? Many times the list of ec's doesn't fit in the 7 or 8 spaces given...
...or...i read this on another thread...will anyone not attach a formal resume, but rather a continuation of the ec chart...

bump...anyone?

I'm planning on sending a resume of about 2 pages with my application.

will u include just ECs and other things that dont fit in the chart on the application, or really do a full resume (that'll repeat things you've already put in the app)
...also for ECs, will you list them or elaborate on them..b/c one of my teachers told us that we shouldn't really describe our ec's b/c the adcoms won't want to read through the whole thing...but i still want to, so that they'll really know all about what the activities involved

Yoy should give a copy of the resume to the alumni interviewer

My son, a current freshman at Harvard, sent in a three pg. resume that listed academic pursuites beyond the h.s. curriculum, as well as all his ec's with very concise descriptions (ec's listed in order of importance to him) with hours per week and weeks per year devoted to them, and accomplishments where relevant. Also a separate part for academic honors.

^this is what I plan to do - send in a list of activities that didn't fit on the app, formatted just the way the app is. I'll probably include short descriptions just to clarify some stuff. But it's not exactly a resume...

^ are you going to put the short descriptions directly under each activity or are you going to write out all of the descriptions at the end of the resume? i was just asking b/c i`m doing a similar thing but i found that putting the descriptions right below the activitiy made it kind of messy and less organized.

also, for anyone above are you sending in the resume even if ur applying online. and if so, are you repeating / elaborating on the activities you listed in the app?

sorry for the specific questions. but yea i just wanted to know. =)

My son did not apply online. His resume did list all activities, not just those that didn't fit on the app, because he had a bunch of accomplishments within those activities that he couldn't fit on the app. and also because he used that resume for interviews as well. The short descriptions or any elaboration (eg. leadership stuff) was included right with the listed ec (I would not recommend separating that--try playing with fonts and margins or cutting out words to format it neatly and clearly)

S did the same thing as Donemom's S, though he kep his resume to one page (he did not have so many ECs). He appended a list of courses he'd taken beyond high school that included a catalog description of each, and that ran to several pages. He sent his application as a hard copy.

Christine - I think what i'll do is stick that in the honors/distinctions column, just because it'll fit better there for my activities. I know that sounds sort of weird, but it makes sense if you think about it... Like for Peer Tutoring, I would list President, then I would have a quick note about how I organized all the peer tutors in the school and matched them up with kids in need of help, coordinating dates and times as well as tutoring several kids myself. I know thats not techinically an honor or distinction, but managing large responsibilities can be viewed as an accolade... so anyway, that's what i'm doing. Not many of my activities really require an explanation anyway. Someone please correct me if you have a better idea :)

ya Im also doing what u r doing koala717, but im sending my app online and i guess ill just have to send the resume in the mail with the other stuff. Is that ok? Maybe Ill put in in the supplementary essay envelope.
