I just got back my sat scores, and i'm unsure as to whether i should take them again. i got a 730 CR, 760 M and 800 W, which adds up to 2290 (my goal was 2300, so i'm pretty satisfied).

However, i really want to go to cornell, and they don't look at the writing score, which is my best score, so my composite is really only a 1490.. do i still have a good shot at cornell? oh i'm an asian female btw.. if that makes a difference.

this is my second time taking it.. last time it was a 2180, but my R+M score was 1470 (so not much of a jump there). There's only one more SAT test date and that's in october of senior year; i don't know whether I should prep for the SAT again or if i should take a couple more subject tests (i've already done bio and math II)

At this point you should focus on other parts of your app and forget testing, and if you are applying ED(I’m assuming), You have not only October but also November. However, CollegeBoard has a few negligencies and can delay your November scores which could be bad. It happened to me but it was in October so it wasn’t so bad. So assuming you can take those times(Oct and Nov), you can retake both SAT 1 and 2. But honestly, I think you are fine, there’s more to applications than SAT.

i think i will take either the subj tests or the sat1 in october and that will be it, since i’ve also heard that nov scores don’t always go through.

can anyone help me decide which is the higher priority/which will boost my college app the most: adding 2 more subj test scores (probably chem and physics in the high 700’s - 800 range) or taking the sat again and getting like a 1550??

Unless you’re planning on doing engineering, I wouldn’t spend time on anymore testing since you’ve already done the requirement. Plus, your scores are statistically “good enough” to be competitive as an applicant.

I would spend that time getting started on college essays, which probably matter more.

I agree with Justin. Your SAT score is good enough to be a competitive applicant. Work on strengthening other parts of your application. Remember, Cornell doesn’t just look at scores, they look at your overall package.

If engineering is your goal, you should at least take 1 science and math subject tests.
