your scores are fine. if you have the time and $, go ahead and retake, but those scores are not going to keep you out of any college

I agree. 2230 is totally fine. You're better off focusing on other parts of your app.

wasai .. DO NOT RETAKE .

how about me and you trade scores, then you can retake.

I also want to gain admission to a few top universities (Stanford, for example). I got a 2200 first time. Retake if:

A) You think it will give you a better chance of admission
B) You are willing to improve/make sure you've improved through practice
C) You are sure you can score higher

I'm sure you meet B and C, but doubtfully A. You don't need to retake (I retook anyway though, and raised my score 100 points, but that was in math and writing because both were below 750.). You have a 1490 M+V, which is what I had. I retook to raise that above 1500, and I met all three of my criteria, so I retook and raised my M+V 60 points, and my total 100. Keep in mind, however, I had a 720 math -- and I wanted a better chance at top engineering schools so I sought to raise my math score. I think your scores are fine, and you wouldn't do much for yourself in a retake. Consider that colleges generally look at your individual scores in each section, rather than a total.

i got the same thing and i was also wondering the same thing!

everyone who ive talked to says pretty much to forget about taking it over and focus on things like volunteering and the essays!

soo yeah!! good luckk

I love thos comments. As if one cannot both take care of other parts of the app and spend a couple of hours a week studying. Only retake if your score is below what you were doing on blue book tests. That's why I retook my 2260. Got it up to a 2350.

ummmm wat do u mean blue book tests lol. do u mean like the practice tests in the collegeboard SAT review book? i didnt study at all or take any prep course, and i kinda wanted to avoid retaking the SAT if possible. the key question for me really is... will my score keep me competitive for admission to the schools i wanna go to?

Short and simple: No.

no to retake? or no to keeping me competitive?

Oh, then yes. It just won't be something that makes you stand out above everyone else. You'll need other things to do that.

If this is about being competitive, then I think it safe to say your scores are competitive at any college.

the ONLY reason i'm retaking a 2220 is because i want a full scholarship to USC, and 2200 is "average" according to cc posts on that scholarship. so... if you are looking into scholarships at those schools, it might be a good idea. certainly a lot cheaper than paying so much $. but it isn't necessary, so it's up to you

i got 2260 for SAT test: math :800, reading:730 writing:730. i've taken the test three times already. dun know whether to take it again. as i'm afraid of the negative impresisions that the university will have on me if i take the test too many times. i'm aiming for Harvard, Yale , Princetonetc. so are the scores high enough?
