My daughter scored a 34 on her ACT. But her math score was a 30. She says she can do the math but runs out of time. She would like to go to GA Tech. I understand a 34 is a good solid composite score but will she be rejected due to her 30 math. She will be taking AP Calculus her senior year and also plans to take the SAT 2 math test. Her math grades in school are stellar just not so much on the ACT. Though I am so proud of her scores. I realize the review is holistic and no certain grade/score ensures acceptance but should she study and attempt to raise the math ACT section score? Thank you for any input.
Yep…based on admissions this year, there was high correlation of acceptance with 35/36 ACT with same math score; and 800 on SAT2 math (and physics). Many 34s were rejected; and a 30 on math may not be viewed as competitive. Keep in mind that this type of perfectionist is now what GATech is attracting.
Thank you. I think she will do amazing on AP calc exam and SAT 2 math. We will have to consider giving the ACT another go. Though I’m not sure she can improve math from a 30 to a 35.
Yes, getting at least a 33 or 34 on math for GA Tech is almost a necessity, especially if you are OOS. But being female is a small plus.
