Retake 4 times?

I have taken the SAT 3 times already. The first time, I was hit with a massive migraine and was stupid enough not to cancel my score. The second time, I got 800CR 770M 680W with an 8 essay. I took an SAT prep class and my overall score dropped to 710CR 760M 770W with an 8 essay. I think if I take the SAT again, I can definitely reach my goal of a 2350+ in a single sitting. However, I am worried that taking the SAT 4 times will reflect poorly on me if I apply early action to a non score choice school like Stanford. I know I may sound a little whiny, but this is pretty important to me. If anyone that got accepted into a non score choice school can offer any advice, I would really appreciate it.

I’m in the same boat. I took it lightly the first two (three really) times because i didn’t realize I wanted to try to get into an Ivy, so my scores were kinda crap, but I’m definitely taking a 4th time. I figure it’s better to have a high score on the 4th time than to just stick with the lower score because you’re afraid of what it might “look like” to a college.

pocketsizedrambo - given that your superscore is 800 770 770, and that many schools don’t care about the writing score, I think you are fine. I think you could get to your goal, but you might get unlucky as well - and your time and energy is better spent elsewhere.

reszerb - your case is different. If you think there will be a big rise, go for it. I’m a bit baffled, however, as to how you ended up taking the SATs three times without working much on them. (Or was one an early CTY sort of thing?)

Your superscore is 2340…haha I think you’ve more than proved to colleges that your capable. Honestly I see no need to retake. With a score like that taking it again might seem a little (or really) obsessive. But hey, to each his own I guess. If it’s seriously bothering you go ahead!

I agree with arsenalcrazy and nemom…focus on the more subjective parts of your app now, you’ve proven to colleges that you have testing ability and retaking again might come off as too much…
Also what did you score the third time?

your superscore is 2340 loser…

A 2340? Ew. Stanford will laugh and toss your app in the trash pile without a second glance.

…You’ll be fine. Your lowest score on any section is a 770, for Christ’s sake. Just work on your essays and other parts of your app and be thankful that you don’t have a composite in between 2100 and 2300, like the vast majority of us.

If you’re worried about looking like you took the test too many times, I would be done. Your score is really really great anyway. If you’re still not confident, try the ACT.

Thanks guys. I decided not to take it again. I think you guys are right about focusing on other aspects of my application. I was looking through the acceptance threads yesterday and I realized that SAT score does not weigh nearly as much as any of the other stuff.

Wait. There is score choice now. The schools will not know how many times you took the test unless you release all the scores. Also, I doubt they care how many times you take it. They actually want the highest super scores for their own ratings.
