Should I retake a 740 IIC, cause i know 740 is a pretty crappy percentile even though it's a decent score. I'm pretty sure I can get an 800 next time cause I know what to expect, but do top colleges look unfavorably at retaking SAT II's? Is this 2nd sitting worth a possible 60 point boost? I know it's fine for SAT's, but what about taking SAT II's twice? Thanks for the help.

I retook with a 790. :P

I don't think they look at it unfavorably, but it may not be necessary depending on where you're applying.

well my top choice is stanford, so I'm assuming by your tone that it is necessary

I dunno about stanford, but other schools (such as MIT) sees no difference between a 700 and 800. Getting 700+ demonstrates profiency in mathIIc, so a higher score won't make much of a difference. Instead, you should invest your time on working on your essays.

Yeah, I don't think that colleges would look at that favorable even if your score did go up. A 740 is a really good score.

llabesab16 is wrong

you definitely need to retake it

it showed that you improved

I believe the time on your essays, grades, and other SATs are much more worth it.

i'm leaning towards the retake, because I'm still a junior right now, not a senior, so I don't have to worry about essays right now, and I'm taking SAT's in march. Negleting how much time is used on preparing for this, which won't be much, should I retake if i think i'll get an 800?

Dude, I don't know when a 740 became a bad score, but if your a junior and have enough time, go ahead.

I would weigh this decision carefully.

On the one hand you don't want to seem obsessive. A 740 is an excellent score. Scoring higher won't necessarily add to your review. Seeming obsession regarding a score could be perceived in a negative light.

I would balance your 740 with a different subject.

I think if you had scored a 600 and feel that you could achieve over a 700 with an additional year of the same subject under your belt--that's a different story. It doesn't look crazed.

I see many kids who don't get 800 and just think it's the be all and end all. It isn't. So many other factors come into play. Do you also play tennis and piano? I see this aspect in many profiles.

lol..i play violin and run track/xc

i see your point...but I don't really have any other SAT II's to take at the moment...I already plan on taking USH and Bio in june after AP tests. So you're saying 740 will be fine for ivies, even if it's for IIC? For any other SAT II, i'd be perfectly content with a 740, but I'm just a little worried since everyone just busts out an 800 so easily on IIC, so will my 740 might percieved as a bit low for elite schools?

I was able to find some SAT II details for Rice, Middlebury, Princeton and MIT and they are posted in a previous thread. try a search.

the range is 700 plus for those schools. similar schools will probably be the same.

your score is just fine. try another subject to show some strength across the board.

alright...i think i'll take physics in january then, thanks the for the help ppl
