So I took the AP Comp Sci A exam in 8th grade, but I’m a bit unsure if that score’s gonna count. I’m going to take APCSA as an elective course in the upcoming year, but I’ve been debating whether or not to take the actual AP class. Seeing as I already have a score, I’m considering not taking it just in case I do worse combined with the costs to do so, but I’ve also heard that 8th grade tends not to count for colleges. Unsure if it’s different since I don’t think collegeboard cares about grade when you take an AP but I just wanted to be sure.
If you got a strong score already, it’s a waste to take the class. Find something else. Of course, if you got a lower score, then you might want to rethink.
If the college gives credit for CSA, then your score counts. It does not matter that you took it in 8th grade.
In general, college admissions teams do not consider school grades from Grade 8 (there are some exceptions).
In general, college admissions consider grades from the AP class more than the score on the AP test (though there is nuance to this).
In general, college admissions that want SAT or ACT scores want those scores to have been achieved during HS (though there is variation).
In general, colleges that give credit for achieved AP scores care more about the score than when the test was taken.
If you submit your Grade 8 AP score during the application process, there is only a small chance that the college admissions reader would notice that you effectively repeated a subject- but IF you are applying to highly selective colleges and IF they did notice it would be a red flag.
So qhat im getting feom this is that the AP score will count regardless of grade, its just the actual class grade that might not count if I did it in 8th?
