Retake a 1890?

I'm ashamed to post this. I can't believe how poorly I did. Are my dreams of Stanford forever shattered?!

for standford, definently retake. go through a few practice tests before you do, though.

but don't worry. lots of good schools would take that score

Yes.

Just kidding, no.

However, 1890 is low for Stanford, and I suggest that you retake the exam one more time and try to get it up to the 2200+ range. Study, study, study (over the summer)!

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm utterly depressed right now...

And I still gotta take the SAT II Math! With this retaking of the SAT I in Oct., and the SAT II in Nov., is it impossible for me to get all this in time for early decision?

Most schools state (each school's policy is different) that the College Board gets the November scores in time for ED/EA/SCEA consideration. However, it is NOT guaranteed. If you have three SAT IIs already, then just assume those are the three scores that they will see, and if you're lucky, they will see your SAT II Math.

October scores definitely arrive on time. I did SCEA to Harvard and they got my SAT II scores in time for SCEA consideration.

Thanks xjayz. Problem is I've only taken 2 SAT IIs, and they were horrible. Chem - 530 (I was a know nothing 9th grader) and US History - 680.

I feel useless.

Then I would suggest for you to not do EA/ED/SCEA anywhere. If you submit applications for regular decision, you can test until January! I think instead of going with the "must do early somewhere" hype, where most applicants will undoubtedly have scores in the high 600s and higher, you should wait. I think that's the best way for you to go.

Your U.S. History SAT II is fine, now you need two others, preferably in the 700s range (as you've been hearing time and time again).

Don't lose heart. I was deferred then accepted at Harvard and most of my scores are in the 600s. Each time the scores came back I really felt horrendous, considering I knew what goals I had in mind and such. Just make sure your test scores aren't so bad that they will overlook you, but you HAVE to make sure that other aspects of your application shine, and Stanford has enough questions on its application for you to do so.

Thanks xjayz for the advice! I'm very impressed that you were deferred and then accepted at Harvard. That's awesome! :)

study study, practise practise

practise doesn't make perfect
perfect practise does

lol. Any tips for "perfect practice"?

SAT Guide from the College Board

Do old tests (even though it is the new SATs)

SAT IIs depend on the subject, what would you like to take?

SAT II's to take:
- Math IIC
- Biology
- Chinese?

I've only taken Spanish for 2 years, so should I take the SAT II for it?
And do I need to take the above 3 in addition to the 2 I already have (Chem and US History)?

Do NOT take the SAT II Spanish after two years. You will NOT do well. I would suggest for you to take two more SAT IIs. A 680 in US History won't kill you in the admissions process.

SAT II Math IIC - Barron's is super hard. Sparks Notes supposedly helped my friend a lot.

Biology - Get the AP Biology book from Cliffs Notes. Life saver, I've heard on this board and my friends say it as well.

Chinese - Well, I'm guessing you are Chinese-American. It will count, but not as heavily as the other SAT IIs. If you score well, it'll show the admissions committee that you are able to read and comprehend Chinese while living in America.

Looks like I've got a whole summer's worth of studying ahead of me then... depressing how I always seem to do bad on standardized tests.

And yes, I'm Chinese American... and I've read that if I don't get a 800, I'll look stupid.

I'm bummed! :(

bummer, you're not alone. i got a SAT score in that range too for this June test. i have plans of going to ivies too, and i'm also depressed beyong anything.

lol otacon88, glad I'm not the only one around here... almost everyone here has 2000+! we can be depressed together... hugs

Take heart, guys.

I know how you feel bummer. I was so happy to get the SAT out of the way and then I did horrible, really, really bad. Do any of you think it's possible to raise your score like 400+ points. I know it's a ton but I didn't study last time for the SAT and I didn't really take it as seriously as I should of so I'm sure I can improve.
