Retake a 2.6 GPA class to transfer

Hi guys, i’m a sophomore in a community college in washington state area, and are planning to transfer to several universities such as UC, UW, and several top schools like CMU.

But i got a 2.6 in my major pre-reqs class which is pain in the ass, my major is statistics btw, and that 2.6 class is my linear algebra class.

if i do not retake it, by the deadline, i would submit my application with 3.71 gpa, if i do, i would get 3.81, it’s a huge increase for me

however, some people might argue that retaking a class that one has passed look not so good in your transcript, because “why would you get a 2.6 in the first place”.

Well i got that gpa during my summer quarter which i spend more on holiday compared to my college which is why.

some universities except UC’s would requre the transfer applicant to submit their application from 1 - 30 nov, that means that no matter what, my previous gpa (2.6) will still on the transcript

for some universities, by the time i apply, they will only see R(retake) and my better grade, (and probably my previous GPA)

i need your opinion guys. thanks!

If you only replace the grade in one class, I doubt that will look bad to transcript evaluators. I think that they look for trends, such as several grade-replaced courses, or several withdrawals or incompletes. Also, check what you have to do to get the grade explicitly replaced at my college (Everett CC), you need to fill out a request form to do so.

The main thing is that my GPA above C (2.0) and also its one of my major perquisites… How would uc view a retaken class?

and the math that i want to retake is higher level math, (you can get into that class if you have already finished calc 12)
