I'm a junior and I took my first SAT this month. My subscores are listed below:
CR: 710
M: 770
W: 800 (essay score 10)

I still have a year before I start applying to colleges, so I still have time to retake the SAT several times if need be. I guess my question would just be if it would be worth it to retake the SAT to try and get a better score based on the information I listed below? Any ideas on my chances of getting into Ivies?

-I'm an Asian girl.
-I plan on applying to Ivies (I'm definitely going to apply to U Penn, and I believe they see all SAT scores from all sittings).
-I probably didn't make the national merit cutoff for my state.
-I plan on applying to schools that take superscores.
-My primary extracurricular is music, and I've competed and placed in national and international competitions.
-I want to go into business, with music as either a minor or double major.

Any thoughts?

I think you should retake. Especially since us Asians need over 2300 on average to get into Wharton at Upenn. Wharton is intensely difficult to get into. So you might want to even just raise that superscore.

Don’t retake…

That score is perfectly fine for even the most prestigious colleges.
Just go on naviance and check out the SAT VS GPA for every school you want to go to. Check it out and it should tell you something about where you stand. Just keep in mind your awards already give you a huge advantage.

It’s incredible what kind of merits you’ve already won for yourself and those honors are incredible extracurricular a that set you apart already. How many people in your COUNTY or even STATE can say that they’ve achieved INTERNATIONAL success? That already sets you above and apart from others…

Retaking it is a waste of times and time would be better spent doing more extracurricular a like volunteering or participating in your school activities/leadership/clubs.

I disagree, I think you should retake. Your CR + M is only a 1480… which, for an Asian applying to top schools and hoping to be accepted, is a tad bit low. I think you should study your but off for CR and try to score 750+.

I was in the same exact boat as you (except I’m not Asian, haha) I had 680 CR 770 M 800 W, and I decided to study for CR and take it again. I ended up getting 760! Just practice lots! Good luck!
