I retook a 2240 and got a 2300 (800 M, 800 W, 700 CR). Should I retake the SAT once more in order to have a higher chance for scholarships? My CR score actually deproved from last time. I also have a 4.0 uw gpa.

No one flame me, please. I really am uncertain.

Are you nuts? A 2300 is awesome. You might not do as well next time. Use the time you would have spent studying and taking the exam to do something fun. It sounds like you deserve it.

No. AdComs are sophisticated enough to realize that standardized tests have margins of error. Your chances of improving enough to move the CR outside of the 700 +/- that margin of error range on a third try are slim enough to not make it worth the trouble.

No flames here. Your CR + M is "only" 1500. I think by you listing Writing first, people didn't realize that. If you think you can bring your CR up, it might be worth retaking if it is crucial for scholarship chances.

My advice is rather than take it again, use your time to investigate scholarships at private colleges with those scores, esp. if CR was higher on a previous take. You would be in the running for full tuition and maybe even a full ride at certain places. But deadlines are often early for scholarships.

You can look at it like your SAT will increase. You can also look at it like your SAT score will go down. The SAT has a margin of error at about 30 points per section. In other words, if you get a 770 in Math in one test, there is a chance you will get 800 on a different version without any extra perparation, and a chance you will get 740. Your score went up 60 points. While that is a great increase and it greatly improves your chances for scholarships, etc. there is the possiblility that you are only at the mid 2200 level, and just by pure luck of the draw, you got the test where you would score a 2300. It could also be that you are at the 2300 level, and with a luck of the draw, increase your CR score by 50 points (probably the max) putting you at 1550/1600 and 2350/2400. It is probably not worth the time, effort, and money because the scores are pretty close to what you had your second time. Unless you are aceing practice tests and will hit a 2400, there is no reason to retake.

Hey, I've been wondering about this, too. Should I retake a 1540/2300 (740 CR, 800 M, 760 WR)?
I really don't want to (and my gut feeling is that it is not necessary), but if it helps me in terms of gettting aid, it's not that big of a deal for me to spend an extra 4 hours on a weekend.
