Retake a 34? (Hear me out)

So I just received my ACT Score and I got a 32E, 36M, 31R, 35S and was wondering if I should retake it because my reading and english scores were lower than my math and science scores. I barely hit the 34 mark (33.5 average) and it was my first time taking it and really wanted to be one and done. I am looking at very selective schools and wasn’t sure if they look at only composite or all the subscores. What do you think?

When will you take it again? June? If so, will preparing for it take away from preparing for your junior year finals? If you have plenty of free time between now and the test, go for it. Just remember that most very selective schools will use your highest scores but they want ALL scores, so if you do worse, they will see those as well. In my opinion, 34 on the first shot is pretty awesome. You should be proud. Good Luck?

Yeah June but right now I have APs I’m studying for and then I am taking two SAT Subject tests the week before the ACT so I’m not sure how much time i will have

A 34 is an extremely good composite score. Many students would think they had won the lottery with that score.

Having said that, my D got a 34 as a sophomore, but being a bit of a perfectionist, decided to retake the ACT as a junior because she “just wanted to try” to get a 36. It was purely for her own vanity, and she will admit that, but it was something she felt driven to do. She did score a 36C (36 each subsection).

I think you should go for it if you really want to and if you really think you can improve your score.

^^agree as long as it doesn’t impact/interfere with your other studies. Good Luck!
